			Other than the obvious like whites and oranges, I've never thought of a graphite rod as being "painted". I'm looking at a rod now and I see the "weave" under what I can only guess is some kind of clearcoat. 
		
		
		
		
		
		
			I'll never forget the horror and disapointment/disallusionment I felt 35 years ago when I stooped by the taxidermist to check on a fish he was doing for me and saw him airbrushing the colors on a bass he was working on  .
