My favorite way is to put them on a jighead. You can also throw them weightless, T-rigged, and wacky.

One way to fish it is to rig weightless on a 2/0 or 3/0 worm hook, but adding a kink twist when putting the hook into the worm....then about two feet up the line...adding a swivel.....causing the worm to twist on retrieve just like a floating worm rig they use with the bright colors. Another way is to wacky rig like already suggested and fishing slowly on the fall with an occasional jerk. Another way is to take a lizard and cut off the head and tail.....welding the head to the front of the worm with a candle or pencil soldering iron and the tail attached to the rear end making a long snake....fish the snake weightless in a more or less topwater retrieve......texposed on a 3/0 hook. Can also be used underwater with a slow retrieve.
If you do choose to make a snake, the head and tail (opinion) should match each other in color, but need not match the body (trickworm) color. I've had some hard hits on a green watermelon body with a bright red head and tail. Making the head with a color different than that of the body creates a target for the fish near the hook.....(opinion). Good fishing, Mac |
