I've just targeted perch a few times; the majority of my perch have been caught while trying for bass. But they will take a variety of lures. My top two choices, in no particular order, would be small grubs on jigheads and small crankbaits. I've seen perch in shallow, weedy, largemouth-type water and deeper, clearer, open, smallmouth-type water. Lousy fighters, great eating, although I haven't kept any fish in many years.

Being a person who has come quite close to a state record for white and yellow perch i'm gonna hafta disagree with marty and say i've always found the whites to be pretty decent fighters. Ive caught them on plastic worms, real small jigs, and once a little daredevil, but the biggest were on real worms or shiners

I should say they suspend most times. live baits probably are the best. worm always work very well. | |
