Let's say I have monofilament line on my reel and I wanna go pike fishing with the mono, but i need to use a braided leader. Should i use a swivel or a knot to connect lines? Which knot is recommended? Thanks. Julien |

Julien, this a question that many will answer differently. I personally prefer the Blood Knot. It takes some time to learn, but I put more tust in that knot than the little swivel. If you take a look under new to fishing board, you will see someone posted a link to animated knots.

Either, but a barrel swivel is easier to use.

I believe that a barrel swivel is easiest, and most convenient- but that doesn't mean that its best. I think it woukd be valuable to learn any new know, and that way you'll have something, even if you run out of swivels.

If you're using braided line, say for Flippin', but want a fluorocarbon leader, could you also use a swivel? -Lunk-

You could, but I wouldn't. I'd rather tie a line connecting knot and flip with that. Depending on how deep the water is, your swivel may screw with your presentation, and weeds would get stuck on it. The knot is much more versatile.

I agree with Joolz. For braid with a fluoro leader tie direct.

So how do you guys get a blood knot to hold when connecting braid to mono or fluoro??? I can't make it work. I have to go to a triple surgeons knot. What am I doing wrong????

Jigger, if the two lines are very different in size (diameter, not # test), I've found that the blood knot won't work very well. I tried with 20# mono and 30# braid, and it never would form correctly when I went to tighten it down. Ended up using an Albright knot, and it held much better.
