I had trouble about the first week or two I had it, then got it down pat. The thing I did that helped me out so much was learning how to flip and pitch it. Once I learned that, casting became easy.

Really? The first rod I EVER started with (this is when I was around 7 years old) was a baitcaster. I thought it was the most SIMPLE rod of all! Probably even more simple then those scoobydoo or spider man or batman reels! Anyways, I switched to a spinning reel when I was 9 years old, and it took me 2 months to get it down. The baitcasting reel seems so much more simple...
I personally like the spinning reels better just because of the more accurate casts you can make with them. I think that sometimes they can even cast further then baitcasters. |

Ah well I guess that's why they call it a baitcaster. But keep in mind I haven't used my baitcaster in 4 years because it's broken. I have 2 spinning reels (one of them is my dad's, but I use it anyways).

It took me only 3 days (about 30 minutes/day) after three months of #&#^@#*#&#*#.
I started with an older Abu G round reel and it was terrible to learn with and the crank was on the side I don't prefer. Then I bought a curado BSF. The difference was like night and day. After just 3 focused practice sessions, I got it down. I was even able to back to the abu g without further trouble. What I gained from that is that your chances of learning faster are better with higher quality reel.

once you get used them they are really nice and easy to use. there are barley any birdsnests when you get used to the feel of the reel.

I've been using bait casters for 2 years now and still bird nest. Just can't keep my thumb down at the end of the cast. Mind you it's not all the time though. I still use spinning for different applications. I did use bc back in the 50's. Dad was understanding and took out all the nests.
