members? ALOT!! boat cost? now ya gone an opened a can of worms...........KIDDING OF COURSE. truly it depends on how much YOU are willing to spend and on what type of rig you are looking for, tin, glass, length and so forth. look at mr. photographers thread in the boat forum. he is fixing up an older boat. looking great too. there is so many boats out there right now and with the economy as it is now. you can get a really nice rig for not a lot of money. just don't buy the first one you see. have it checked out THROUGHLY. test run it too. make sure it suits your needs and you are comfy in it. you'll find the right one and at the price you want. any questions about a certain brand or make, we have folks here that can help you there as well.quite a few "big time boaters" here. so go look at some, write down info. come back and ask questions. we'll get you in the right rig pal.

Foyt, you are in for it now, amigo-your bait monkey has arrived!
Chunk that mono-it is way beyong it's shelf life. I replace mono/fluoro every few weeks of use. Pull off 3-4 long cast's worth of line, tie on the fresh line and refill. No need to replace the whole thing. Saves money, too. I agree with the recommendations you already have. One MUST HAVE is a chrome/blue back lipless crankbait like a Rat-L-Trap, Redeye Shad, Cordell Spot. There are a bunch out there. If you get a Rat-L-Trap(original) either sharpen or replace the hooks. They are about as sharp as a Q-Tip right out of the box. As far as boats go they run from less than $100 up-just depends on what you want and can afford.

Hey guys, i didnt win the lotto yet i dont think. Lets see 4500 members times a nice round number like $15000, about 67000000. That may not work. .
Thanks for all the great advice. I cashed in my fun fund (5 gallon water bottle that i put my change in every night) so i may feed the monkey tonight at my local shop. |

About your line situation:
I would get a new spool, but not of spider wire. Get 30lb test Power Pro braided line, the best braid I've found. If you're fishing clear water, than just add a Fluorocarbon leader. Terminal tackle: Get a see 50 yard spools of FC, different line sizes, from 6-15lb test. Use the low lb test line (6lb-10lb) as a leader for shaky heading, drop shotting etc. Use the high rage line lb test (12lb-15lb) as leaders for fishing clear-semi clear water. Use these when fishing senko baits and worms. I don't find using a leader necessary for fish muddy, chocolate, colored, and green waters. Neither do I if you're fishing in weedy, leaver cover places. Go ahead and use straight braid for these conditions. Get a good assortment of weights, 1/16 to 1oz. bullet, egg and drop shot weights. Hooks as well, get sizes 1/0 to 7/0. And types from mosquito to, J to offset, and EWG (Extra wide gap). Bullet weights: I only use the heavier weights over 1/2oz for punching mats. I use 3/16 - 3/4 - 1/4 oz for fishing regular casting situations, casting to lilly pads, reed, cabbage etc. Egg sinkers: You don't have to get a very wide range of weights for these. Get 1/2 to 3/4oz weights. They versatility is limited almost completely to fishing Carolina rigs. Drop shot weights: Get weight sizes from 1/16 - 1/4 for these weights. I mostly use 3/16 oz for this. Use the heavier 1/4 oz for fishing very deep water. You’ll not want to wait long for you rig to hit the bottom. Hooks: Get a buck of these, I find Owner and Gamikatsu to bet the best brand, but I'll buy lazar sharp most of the time, I have very limited money. Offset shank, wide gap, and EWG hooks: I most of the time use wide gap hooks—they seem to be a happy median. And it’s also easier to get your soft bait to hang straight on the hook with this hook. Some do say that they don’t give as good of hook sets as regular offset hooks, I however find this false! They get fine hook sets! Use a EWG hook for fishing wide baits such as sweet beavers, and other beaver baits, big creacther baits as well. Basically anything that is wide, and that you think needs one—a big factor in bass fishing is confidence. Use the larger hooks for the larger worm, small 1/0 hooks for 3” baits and big 7/0 hook for big 10” + baits. “J” Hooks: Use J hooks if you’re fishing places with lots of reeds. The straight shank dose not get caught on grass as easily as offset or wide gap hook would. Mosquito hooks: Use these fro drop shotting. Typically you would use no more than 2/0’s for this. You want to use the smaller hook so you the bait have more action. Just refer back to Kevin’s video for more info. Line cutting tools: You’ll want sharp scissors for cutting braid. Your teeth work fine for mono and flouro under 17lb test. But if you can’t bit line, than go ahead and use clippers of any kind, they seem to work fine! Scales: You’ll want to be able to weight your trophy bass once you catch it. You’ll also want to bring a measuring tape. The kind the fold up and fit in your pocket. Sun glasses: Get a good pair of polarized sunglasses, don’t be stingy for these, go ahead and by a 50.00 pair, once you get a pair, you won’t get a new pair any time soon. And plus, it will pay off when you’re site fishing beds during the spawn. I can go on and on about clothing and rain gear, but I’m sure you’ll use you head. You can also do a forum search for more info Lures: You’ll need to get lots of lures for different situations. I’ll cover the different kinds and my favorite of each. Worms: My favorite brand of soft plastics are, Zoom and rage tail. Cranks: My favorite cranks baits are strike king, Norman, and, Rapala. Lippless cranks baits I like rapala and rat-l-trap Spinnerbaits: My favorite spinnerbaits are strike king, wall mart, and boohya!. Frogs: Spro Bronze Eye frog for hallow body, and Stanly Ribbit, and rage tail. Creacher baits: Zoom baby/standard size, brush hog. Top water: Zara spook, pop-r, jitter bug, rapala skitter walk. I won't go to the species with color, but I'll give you general guide lines! If the water water is murky, use lighter, florescent colors, is the water is clear, use lighter colors, not florescent colors, use whites, light blue, and red. As far as spinnerbait blades Use the bigger rounder Colorado blades for, for dark and murky water, use the longer willow blades for clearer water. __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ___________________ Well the should cover the basics! I hope you're willing to spend 500-1000 $ on all this stuff! Hope this helps! Good luck and good fishin!

The bait monkey likes it, too. He'll want to add to the list, though. You must resist his influence.
But, in the end, resistance is futile. Oh, well... |
