Hey Bassin Gal on some reels (not all) you can lower your gear ratio on an existing reel by changing out the main /drive gear pinion gear. Depending on the reel….if it’s a reel worth more than $15-$20 you can do it...not exspensive! I figured out how to drop my Pflueger 6:3.1 down to a 5:1 ratio. While I don’t know the advantages first hand…..because I’ve never owned a lower gear ratio reel Everyone is telling me it’s a better gear ratio for cranking and deep cranking. If interested let me know what reels you have and I’m sure some other reel guys will chime in

My very favorite reel is a Pflueger Echelon that hubby gave me for my birthday last year. I don't know if I want to mess with it because I LOVE it just like it is. I think I will just wait and ask Santa for a new one, but thanks. If Santa doesn't come through I will have to look at modifying one.

Ha I think that’s a reel that can have it’s ratio altered……anyway I super tuned my buddies Echelon made me want to keep it….but no left models. If you think you love that reel know have someone super tune it for you. Maybe santa….you’ll love it!

What is involved in "super tuning"? I don't think I have ever heard of that. I can't imagine loving it any more than I do. That is the smoothest thing I have ever thrown. For the price, I don't think it can be beat.
