I use a 7 foot Shimano flipping stick with titanium guides. It is a power action. I use a Ambassador XLT reel with a 5.3 to 1 ratio. I spool with 20 lb test spider wire. Heavy line is very important and line visability is not so crucial .I flip and pitch both with this rig, I is not to long for me and has a strong enough back bone to wrestle fish from around a dock support or out of thick brush. I usually flip a big River Side tube or a jig and pig.I have done well flipping a spinnerbait or a pegged lizard.Fish2win

What reel u suing on the techna rod? How well does it balance out?? In the market for a new flippin stick and even though I am a devoted and diehard Airrus rod man those techna av rods are just plain AWESOME. I had the chance to through a 6'6" med with a spinnerbait on it with a 4600C4 and was very impressed. When I am flipping I want ALL the weight behind my hand. $250 dolars is quite abit of green for just the rod but if it balances out like I want I would by one.

fenwick techna av rods are 130-140 bucks each. a golden wing is $250-with a 6+month waiting period.. i use a left handed reel on the techna av. a pflugher trion -bass pro edition- the hardest part i found in using a lefty reel is changing your grip or hand hold on the rod. this i found is KEY in being effective with a left handed reel.. this is my standard grip with a right handed reel-this is my flippin stick.all fingers ahead of the trigger this is the grip i use on my lefty reel.. zooker

ALL of my reels are left handed.. i feel that since i'm right handed shouldnt my strong hand be the hand on the rod and my weak hand on the reel.. i feel i have more hook setting power with my right arm controling the rod.. makes sense doesn't it?
