Do it in the Fl panhandle. Say Lake Talquin, big lake, decent weather, not to far south. Still puts me at a 8-9 hour drive from here. If I become suddenly wealthy between now and then we could just come to my mansion on Lake Kiss that I will build. Also, Lake Seminole, covers Fl/Ga line.

Hoseholder, if you get a mansion of Kissimmee, please, set it back from the treeline so that it isn't obnoxious. Kissimmee is one of the more pristine looking lakes in florida because it hasn't been ringed by development. Its kinda a big deal.

That is one of the nice things about Dale Hollow, most of the property adjacent to the lake is undeveloped, besides any of the marinas and resorts. And If I'm not mistaken, I believe they lease the land from the Feds.

I was told by the Cedar Hill owners that the USACE owns the entire perimeter of the lake, 500 feet from the high water line.

We need to choose a Host for next years Zookerfest. I would like to nominate Don (Nobass). He deserves to be the Host, after his ordeal at the last get together.
So, what do you say Don, you up for it? -Mark Last edited by woody; 10-20-13 at 04:59 PM. |

Awesome, Don! congrats with your new personal best smallie. There's no doubt about it, those brownfish pull hard and jump high.
Well unless someone objects to Nobass being host and knows of another lake with suitable accomodations, I'd say a return trip to Dale Hollow has been well received. If anyone thinks otherwise it's time to speak up now. Keep in mind what sorta accomodations would be available. -Mark |

Yeah Mike, the town of Celina is about 10 minutes south of Dale Hollow Marina. And before you get to town, there's a well stocked Bait and Tackle shop, which is very convenient.

I just re-read this thread for the 2nd time in as many days ; )
I've been wanting to make one of the events since I joined this site, and I really think I can make this one! With the economy turning around a bit, we're getting OT for the first time in like 4 years....I refinanced, dropping almost 3 percent, and took care of some debts. I also don't think there will be any problem getting the time off work. We get no paid holidays or paid vacation, so they're generally pretty cool with a guy takin a week off. Now, a couple points: If at Dale Hollow, I'm likin the Harbor House! 38 bucks a night and a kitchen????? Wasn't Stephen Headrick going to come out and give a seminar at an event, for the low low price of dinner? If so, and I can make it, I have that covered. Keith, Bryce and anyone else between Michigan and DH, I'm willing to pick up a hitchhiker or two. Maybe 3 if the ol lady doesn't come with me. Most likely, I'll be renting an Escape for the trip down, so we should have room for a couple passengers and gear. If it has a trailer hitch, we could haul a boat even. Wouldn't mind checking out an Avalanche first hand ; ) I would be leaving on a Thursday morning, and heading back on a Tuesday morning. Question for anyone who knows the lake. Would It be worth my time to rent a jon boat (200 for a week), or can I find as many fish by haulin down the yak?

Mike, we can definitely work something out.
However, I think you will find that they won't rent anything with a hitch on it. I tried when my old Dakota got run into, and the rental place just gave me dumb looks. So if you want to park at my place, and haul your gear in my truck/boat, that's also an option. I could use a good fishing partner too. Someone's gotta catch something.

I went ahead and started an OFFICIAL ZOOKERFEST DALE HOLLOW thread, so that we can start planning for this event.

Bryce, I've been kickin your idea around, but I don't think it's gonna work out.
I'll be renting an suv for the trip anyways, so I'd either be paying for it on days I don't use it, or check it in and back out near you, which would be a pain. Also, we'll have quite a bit of gear. Smoker.....grill.....grub......as well as clothes and tackle. Definitely appreciate the offer though!!!!! Can't wait to check out your boat!

I'll invite Stepehen Headrick to a cookout one evening with us, and to talk smallmouth fishing. Hopefully he's not to busy, It's worth a try anyways.

Mike, you could definitely fish DH from a kayak. WTL asked about it previously. Michigan not far form Wisconsin - hook up with the Jdog and bring your kayaks. I've considered that option for myself, haven't done it yet.

WHy, Why, Why would you put such ideas in the mind of a vulnerable addicted person, ME, not Mike?
AND WITH SIX MONTHS FOR ME TO HAVE TO CONVINCE MYSELF HOW IT CAN'T/CAN BE DONE! There HAS TO BE a forum rule against such cruelty!!!!

I think we'd talked about kayaks last year, too. Dale Hollow is a big lake, but I ended up staying within probably a mile, maybe two, of the cabin the whole time. It's doable in a kayak, but might be farther than you'd want to paddle. But it wouldn't be hard to lay a kayak crossways across the back deck of one of our boats and get you to the general area you'd like to fish, or just tie up to it and (slowly ) tow you there.
