thanks you for your vote of confidence zooker and the rest of ya'll, BUT, if it is gonna be at kentucky lake i can't take control of this one. it is too far and i know NOTHING about the place. so someone who is closer and knows the lake will need to take the lead. i am willing to help out in anyway i can. and i am not sure that i can make it yet. money is getting really tight around here gang. but i am planning to attend, ok?

I will have to wait and see when it gets closer to make sure it is not the same time as one of the local tournaments that I really want to fish this year and club events. If it is open then I'm in. If I still have a job, still in Michigan, etc......

May a northerner interject?
How about some tidal water?
This place has been calling to me in my dreams.. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=s&ie=U...,0.161533&z=13 It is the Northeast River and it has miles of backwater to fish in two states. Redfish and trout at the mouth too. Capt Mike

Has anyone here fished Big Sandy part of Ky Lake? Its in the northwest part of Tenn on Ky lake...Its been on bassmasters on tv before and some guys here like it better than big bear creek, just curious who out there has fished Ky Lake and knows of dif . places they would like to hit..It would be closer for the southern forum members, probably a couple hours more if you're coming from the north..just food for thought...

I'd like to be on the main river, Big Sandy looks to be a huge creek - but that area of the lake is fine also. Heck, if we keep moving south we will be talking Shiloh soon. Anyone want to camp in the woods across from the bloody pond?
I'm thinking Kentucky fishes much like Pickwick and Wilson, so its all fine to me.

I know that this may come up later, but what about fishing licenses? I'm going to assume we many need both KY & TN?

Is there much hydrilla/grass in Kentucky lake and what areas? I know Pickwick has had a little, wilson not much, wheeler has some and guntersville is a milfoil paradise - it really impacts the fishing.

Yes theres weeds and grass, lots of buckbrush to flip if the waters up..I"ll put up a map of the lake next..
We used to find weeds in Smiths cove and Jonathan ....theres structure of all sorts, gravel to chunk rock to bolders as big as a barn. |

Note that this is the northern part of the lake, the dam on the top of the page, the waterway over to barkley, and if you look on the left lower you can see big bear creak, smiths, and jonathan, all great bodies of water.

The middle of ky lake when you go from one side to another has a few shallow areas that are marked with bouys, its odd right in the middle where you think it would be deep it comes up to a couple of feet, but its well marked, if you leave big bear to cross over to smiths for example.
The more I talk to the guys here that have been going for decades I am leaning towards may, before it gets really hot ....but I am open to any time! Another option is right around the corner(by boat) is the MOORS resort, I've stayed there plenty of times too, a little cheaper than big bear, it has a giant boat slip area and a barge in front of a sea wall. I am not sure if theres camping there or not. Its good fishing and most of us will probably be fishing in front of it if you want to venture out.. |
