The 23rd of EVERY month? What are you, a werewolf? Or is that the day the magic wears off and you turn back into a pumpkin?

I think Dad and I are gonna try to make it out. I cant wait. It should be a blast. I personally like april or early may but I do agree with what bama said about the younger school locked members. I just cant wait it will be a blast.

Called Big Bear Resort
I just talked to the lady that takes reservations for camping, heres the info.
A deposit of 32 dollars is required to send down for the weekend if we want to get a campsite, full hookup. The lady said that unless its a holiday that there is always enough camp sites available, how ever you must contact them ahead of time and then mail in the deposit. Each member will have to do this on thier own in advance the number to big bear lodge resort (and camping) is 1-800-922-2327...expect a southern sounding voice to answer LOL I told her about the group, said we havent narrowed the time down yet but will soon..and that probably 12-20 of us will be there..I hope that number continues to grow Its always been nice to get some of the reservations and money taken care of ahead of time, just one less expense once you get there. Some expenses to consider once we get there are : Paying for the rest of camping..I think its about 32-35 a day for FULL hookup, 21 a day for primitive. MY buddy Scott was just camping there in July and said no ramp fees at the marina or the other state ramps...I'd recommend the state ramp just around the bend from the marina(easy to find)..the marina ramp is very steep and very short.... I asked about May 15 16th and she said so far the summer is open except for holidays, which makes our picking any date pre or post memorial day ok for availability for sites. Call Big Bear Resort yourself and ask any questions needed, and we'll decide when we are going and then each member/team will send in for thier own sites. You can ask about showing up and paying when you get there, she indicated we should send in a deposit.. We need to ask her if its non refundable if we dont show up and any other concerns..as always, these ppl are very nice to talk to about details. |

Weezy, don't be disappointed, fishin isn't for everyone, my wife isn't into it either and has decided not to come. She knows that when I'm out their fishin, it's from sun up to sun down, as it should be and that is just to much for her. So she lets me have my way. No need in being disappointed.~woody

my self and jb spoke in lenth on this last evening. -he answered his phone fer once-
middle may is the best time..as i have not gotten around to buy a new 09 calander yet i can't say exactly what day that is.. but i say lets go for the second weekend in may.. according to my "local" guy the large mouth are in mid spawn, the spots are very active, and smallies are over there post spawn.. which means more FISH are biting and it is not so dam hot. to quote his fishing log "may 18 2006 ky lake 66 degrees barkley 67 they have drawn the lakes down a couple feet in the last two days. largemouth are biting every where -shallow to deep-prespawners are biting as well as i am catching bass off the beds,we are catching deep post spawners off mainlake points.. smallies were are catching are during the low light hours off mainlake points.not in bunchs but some are good sized fish................ " trust me he also has told me what to use-hehehehe... zooker

June 23rd.
Naw, just kidding (weezy). I do think we should consider early June. Kids will be out of school then. The only competition will be weddings. The weather will be very predictably warm, but not hot. I suggest June 5th, 6th and 7th. THat said if Zooks friend says midmay is good, I will believe him. Another thing - and a big one i think - Last year I didnt get the opportunity to fish my smallmouth creeks. Does anyone know if there are any good wading streams in that area? It would give a tremendous opportunity for bank anglers to catch lots of nice fish if there are - and perhaps for the group to fish right close to each other. I've always found these creeks to be red hot starting in may (depending on water levels)....

hey zooker i've answered the last 4 f'n times ya called.
anyways, he's right about the spots hitting good, I've seen 4.5 spots caught right there in big bear...they have alot of tournaments and just like everywhere the fish are released at the weigh in sight at the marina.. Ya need to bring a crappie rig down there too, these crappie are 2 lb plus easy, good eating huh |
