Step One...done!
Our cabin (or, as joedog likes to call it, the "resort") is open and ready for another season.
We arrived at the lake just before 6:00 p.m. Saturday night and the weather was just gorgeous. Temps were still in the mid 60s and there was no wind to speak of. We had the dock, lift, boat and canopy all in place within two hours, just as it was getting dark. The weather on Sunday, when this picture was taken, was a totally different story...low 40s, very windy, rain all day long, and a forecast of measurable snow Sunday night. Next trip up there in two weeks will include yard work and crappie fishing! |

Nope, no assembly required! Push them into the water manually in the spring. Hook them up to the lawn tractor in the fall and pull them up on dry land. The lift has "retractable" (probably not the right word) wheels, one on each side in the middle. Use a cordless drill & socket to put them down, which pushes the lift up off the ground, when we want to move it. Crank 'em back up off the ground with the drill when we have it in place so all the weight is on the lift feet/skis. The dock takes all of about 15 seconds for two of us to push into the water. The lift takes a couple minutes because it's a little unstable with the wheels being in the middle. Now getting the canopy on the lift...yes, that is a bit of a PITA, especially if it's windy.

Yep, you're right. We usually open the last weekend in April, but we can't always put stuff in the water then because the ice isn't out yet. We had record early ice-out up there two years ago when it was out by early April. That record was shattered, pun intended , this year by more than two weeks when it went out in late March...a full month ahead of average ice-out time.

Nice place, so when are we all meeting up there?? Haha.
One thing that I have really learned from this site is to be thankful I live in the south (I already loved it) but we never deal with ice.

I don't know if ya'll had it in SC, but here in Kentucky in 2009 we had a crazy ice storm that shut everything down for weeks! Lol
I am very thankful though, that here in the south we don't have the ice like the north gets! |

Well, I've heard that if you haven't grown up by the time you're 50, you don't have to. So I've got 18 years left to grow up.....or not.
