Fishing shows on TV
How come on the fishing shows on TV they show them catching fish but do not really go into the techniques or how they are fishing a certain lure to get a bite? I watch them all the time and record them to watch later, but most of the time it is you just watching them catch fish. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching them, but I would at least like to know what technique they are using.
Most of them tell you what rod/reel, bait, line, etc. The Bass Pro Shop Outdoor world ones I guess come the closest to telling you how to do it or use a lure. But I would still like to see some that go into more detail. I guess they want me to buy the instructional DVD. Anyone else feel the same way??

I think you've made a really good point - I've been wondering the same thing.
I'm also put out a little by how much hunting is on the outdoor channels and very little fishing. Anyone know of fishing shows on DirecTV ? Last edited by Abbeysdad; 07-31-08 at 04:11 PM. |

I love the outdoor channel's. But why do hunters get more air time. I love hunting very much. But us fishermen don't get nearly as many shows to pick from.

Youtube.com works on fishing tips. No one video is more than 2 or 3 minutes. With my attention span that is important

There are very few shows that are informational anymore and to boil down what zooker said they show these guys catching fish because the sponsers want you to see that their crap works and tip wise they spend so much off there time amping up the product that theres not much time left for actual tips

I remember growing up watching Gadabout Gaddis on the weekend.
A good show has to be about the teaching - how to find the right spots on the water, the tackle, the bait, the method. |

I used to like Hank Parker. He would actually take his kids fishing in a pond and show the fun of fishing. the only time I watch many outdoor shows are in january till march. not much going on here that time of year unless you want to sit by a pond and throw pink dough at trout.

Thanks for the replies and the websites, I will check them out.
I would definitely rather be out there fishing than watching it on TV, but at 3 AM in the morning when I am feeding our 5 week old, they come in handy!!!

Roland Martin was always my favorite growing up...When we were kids (25 years ago), when the fishing got slow, we'd start our "Oh Son!" immitations, setting the hooks into nothing

I always wanted to see a fishing show that put a pro on a lake where the fish werent biting; then see the pro go through whatever steps he is gonna do to pattern the fish. Anybody can catch fish when they are biting.
Otherwise, its just fish porn and lure pimpin.

"A Day at the Lake" is kinda like that... pros on lakes they haven't fished before. I've seen episodes where they fish 6 hours and come up with a couple dinks. the show keeps track of the number of casts and the pro will usually talk about what he would do different if given another chance.

There's a new show called Hook n Look with Kym Stricker. It's excellent. Aside from the fishing aspect, he and his son dive where they were fishing and film underwater. It's quite amazing watching the fish hit the baits. It's also very informative. You can see the bass in their natural habitat and the type of cover they're relating to etc. It's on the VS network.

I don't know if any of you have heard of The Bass Pros on Versus but it is a great fishing show that does go in depth on techniques and lures and everything I highly recommend this program to everyone. It features Tim Horton, Kevin VanDam, Woo Daves, Alten Jones, Stacey King, Edwin Evers, Jason Quinn, and Rick Clunn. It is a very good program that will teach you a lot and maybe you'll learn a thing or two

yeah a lot of the shows are huge commercials for the persons sponsors.... the best show for certain techniques are The Bass Pros on VS (versus) ..... Day on the Lake is cool to see what pros throw and how they fish a new lake at different times of the year (VS)...... try those two shows and see how you like them..... also there is a show jusr about Bass on National Geographiv that came on a week ago but is coming on again... cant wait to watch it

Over the last few years, I've watched the full schedules on Versus and ESPN2. This year I really haven't watched more then a few shows start to finish. Just can't get into these infomercials any more.
