Clear water fishing
Alright I could do a search, but I like starting new threads. And plus I value everyone's opinion. I am going to fish: http://www.mdwfp.com/level2/Fisheries/pdf/maps/210.pdf or
http://www.mdwfp.com/level2/Fisheries/pdf/maps/204.pdf These lakes are renowned for being super clear. My buddy told me there were slick spots all over the place about a week and a half ago, but I figured the cold temps probably pushed them back on the ledges or down the slopes. We have got some mid 50 nights and low-mid 70 degree days coming up and I was hoping to hit it Thursday or Friday. These 2 places have skunked me several times, and I was just wondered how some of ya'll would go at it. I am thinking a drop shot and shakey head. I know I will throw a lizard, too the shallows if I find them on the bed. But it is hard for me to stand and spot and be careful in my little boat. I have a narrow 12' that will chunk you quicker that you can say Ambesol if you ain't careful. So what you think?

i think you are dead on pal. maybe a spinner (white), or a swimbait or something similer.

If I can handle the slowness, I might try a wacky senko, but I don't know if I have the patience for that slow of fishing and letting it fall 8-14'. I have been wanting to try it a while though.

oooohhhhh, jig too. deep jigging works good in clear water, remebered doing it at smith lake here along time ago. pick a drop off and jig it. yea, that might work for ya.

i like the shakey head idea (although i personally hate finesse fishing it is a good technique). i would also spend a lot of time throwing a finesse jig, or football jig with a finesse skirt. for the jig i would go with greens, watermelons, and pb&j.

I need to pick up a few PB & J. I have never tried them, but I am hearing a lot about them. Hopefully I will get to do some Ike impersonations.

The pond in my spinnerbait trip thread is clear. I use a a single willow blade and a white skirt for this place. I use braid in, line to lure, they seem to bite fine, I'm not sure if it's because the bass can't see it as they would other wise since It's very Hydrilla filled water as well. I would like to add a 20lb FC leader to it, but have not goton, around to it, and plus, it's working out fine the way it is now.
I would use a leader if I was fishing super clear water though Hope this helps, Good luck and good fishin!

Bubba if the temps. are on the rise with one of those much welcomed warm fronts then I might be tempted to speed it up a little, maybe with a suspending jerkbait or even some sort of a crank if it warm up enough. I hope ya catch a Bigg'n!

Also a fluke would probably work well too.

yeah if they are on beads dont go spot em just throw the fluke at the bank and the cruising males or post/pre spawn females will hit it.... if that dont produce hit a rockys dropoff with a jig or shaky head.... jig for bigger, shaky for numbers...... if that fails use the wacky rig

Man, I appreciate the comments, but the good Lord has seen it fit to send me to work a week early, and to tell you the truth I am blessed with the hard times falling to have a rig to go to. I did get to take my boys catfishing this afternoon and we caught 8 1-2 pounders. So a good day to say the least and what a way to spend it with the family. Thanks for the tips though, I will try to bust them up next time I am in. I am sure there will be some late spawners and some just starting elsewhere.
