Too much rain
Finally had an opportunity to revisit a pond I have had moderate success at in the past on Saturday. We had way too much rain the last several days and the fish were finicky and seemed confused. Everything that has worked well in the past came up empty except plastic worms. My daughter had a few strikes and one break her off. I managed to get a few strikes with only being able to put my hands on one that probably weighed 1.5 pounds. Fished hard for about 5 hours to have not much to show for the effort. The wind was blowing hard & cold and the water was unusually cold given the recent temperatures here. Given this information what other bait might you suggest?

I'd try a 3/8 oz spinner bait myself, deouble Colorado blades worked slow.

Lilly pads & pond weed made slow presentations difficult.

Change your line. Braid, all the way, for me. All of my spinning and bait caster reels are spooled with it. The only break offs I get is when something wraps around a log, or a pickerel cuts it with teeth.

My daughter's break-off involved a tree. She said it was a good fish. At that time I had given up on the boat due to the wind and we were bank fishing and not near each other.
