Looking for a new scale.

Does anyone have a recomendation on a good grip scale.

I have been using a cheap berkley digital scale for the past year. The readings have proven to be fairly accurate <1 oz variance, but I would like to upgrade to a grip style. I have been reading reviews, but on most, there are just as many 1 star reviews as 5 star ones.

I have a Rapala scale and a X-tool scale. Both are accurate and within a 0.1 to 0.3 oz of corrected weight when weighed with a tarred weight(known & accurate weight). X tool has a great grip for the fish. Works like pliers and will hold big fish without dropping. The Rapala I have has hook and must put in fish's gill plate or punch hole in its mouth. Fish can still wiggle off but X Tool holds.

X Tool held 8lb 5oz LM without dropping and the fish was raising cane.

My Berkley was a hook and I would prefer to not poke a hole if I can avoid it.
The xtools version looks decent, but does not appear to be sold anywhere. I may find it at some of the mom and pops stores in my area.

I believe X-tools went belly up. I'm also looking as mine went to the bottom of Guntersville last week. I've been looling at a Rapala digital handheld the one that comes in the 15# maximum weight. Most are 50# scales, and I'm thinking the 15# would be more accurate. I know I'm not going to catch a bass that will need more than a quarter of a 50# scale limit, but I would like one as accurate as possible.

I got the BogaGrip , love it. Only weighs to the quarter pound , so if your looking for exact ounces you should look elsewhere.

Bassboogieman you are correct about smaller scale being more accurate for the fish you catch. Medical scales are more accurate if you are weighing objects that use the upper end of their capacity. That is what I was told by personnel that checked the scales. If you are using between 40 to 85% of the scales capacity the weights will be more accurate than something very light or heavy, that is at the upper limit of scales ability to weigh. I am by no means an expert on this and it may not hold true for all types of scales.

The end goal is really for my tournaments. I very seldom weigh any other fish. (It is easier to just make up a weight that way)

I don't like using the hook to weigh on the gill plate and would rather not puncture the mouth if I can avoid it.

I had looked at the boca, but for the tourney's, an ounce will matter to me.

If I can't find one that I like, then I will modify a new one with hook to use a clamp. I am not as worried about accuarcy as I am consistancy. That has been the biggest issue with my current scale. It does not appear to zero properly each time.

I bought this same scale last year and so far it seems to do everything I want it to do.
