Small Bass??

I fish in a pond behind my parents house, it is a huge pond with lots of timber and cypris trees...its an old pond and has everything in it from bass to catfish to brim and perch....but i caught two bass in it the other day, one was 26 in long but only weighed 5 1/2 pounds, the other was 24 in and weighed 4lbs...is it just me or does it seem that these bass are to long and big to weigh so little. they should be 10plus pounds i think! (all the 10 pounders i see online are about 22inches) these are really long and slender with no belly. am i wrong?

Yes they are long and skinny. You would expect them to be heavier but depending on what part of the country you live in they may be post spawn. Also old fish lose weight and are skinnier than younger fish of the same length. Finally they may be malnurished even though you see other fish swimming around.

I've had more than my share of bass that were were too light for their length, but none as long as yours. Goes with the territory.

Zane South Georgia doesn't officially begin until you are somewhere south of a line between Albany and Jesup But as a Valdosta native I always considered anyone north of Macon "Yankees" so I guess you can qualify as a tweener.

Regarding your long skinny fish.....I'm guessing it's a fluke. Do all the fish you catch there seem to be under-weight? If they do then the pond is likely out of balance for some reason, either natural or man-caused. Call the DNR if it's public water or talk to the owner if it's private.
