Default First catch on new boat

Hit the lake yesterday for a couple of hours since the weather was so nice. It was about 70 degrees with a slight wind. I didn't even fire the big motor up because I decided to fish an area close to the boat ramp, so I launched and put the trolling motor down and started fishin. Water was right around 60 degrees and stained. I had been fishing for about 20 minutes when I caught my first ever bass from my new boat. This 17" 2.5 lb smallmouth hit my crawfish colored crankbait like a tank and would not let me lip it. I got to see about 6 really good jumps before I swung it into the boat. Smallmouth fights are the best:

After about 20 more minutes of fishing the same spot, I got another really strong hit. I set the hook, but the fish didn't move or want to come up. I was wondering if it was a bass or not. It took some drag and fought hard for about 20 seconds before I reeled it in. To my surprise this is what had inhaled my crankbait:

Needless to say I was very surprised to see a walleye! It went 24" and 4.5 lbs. I kept it in my livewell for a while trying to decide if I wanted to keep it for dinner, but decided to put her back in the drink. We don't have very many walleye that size in my home lake. My dad took the picture right before I loaded the boat back onto the trailer. Not bad for the first 2 fish on my new boat!

Cavs, I thought it was a largemouth when I first saw it. That might be the greenest smallie I've ever seen!

Bama, I love those smallies too. Nothin beats the feel of fighting those fish. Funny thing is largemouth outnumber any other species in this lake probably 10:1 and I haven't been able to catch one! Hopefully that will change tonight and I'll have some more pics to post...

That's great - makes the boat sweeter... and as far as I'm concerned, any good sized fish with some fight is a good catch....(remembering my youth when I'd reel in the trout like nothing, but hook one of those big river carp and you had a real serious fight on yer hands - like a freshwater Marlin).

Well, was out again last night and didn't catch much. One perch and a dink largemouth. Fishing was tough, I think the weather was TOO nice outside. I tried just about everything I could think of, just couldn't find the fish. You win some, you lose some. I'll be out Saturday morning to try my luck again.

Well, I got my first 2 buckets on Saturday afternoon. Caught them both dragging a tube around boat docks. I was only able to be out for about 2 hours cause I had some other family plans. Sunday was a whole different beast. Was on the water for 5 hours and got nothing to show for it. I somehow seemed to work my way into a deep funk and couldn't get out of it. Same conditions as Saturday, but the fish just weren't positioned the same. Oh well, here's the 2 Saturday buckets:
