Default It's not a Bass, so what!

I've been hibernating quite a bit this winter. It's been a very cold, above average snow fall year up north here. I really got a itch last week when temps hit a balmy 29. I live across from the Menominee river and a short way to the hydro dam. The water stays thawed all year by this dam. I'm not opposed to cold weather fishing but this is a little extreme. I started casting a Wild Eye Shad swim bait out into the swift flow and got hung up in the rocks a few times.I was just about to pack it up when my rod doubled! Wham, I got hit hard. I knew it wasn't a Walleye and figured it had to be a Northern or one of the occasional Musky caught here. Sure enough, it was a large Northern. I didn't have a measure or scale with me, but it had to be a good 44", maybe 12 Lbs. It wasn't as chunky as they do get here. That was sure fun. I went home with a smile. I'm going to try to get out there more. The weather lately has been in the teens and just cold enough to keep me home. It's a nice option for the cabin fever fix.
Any of you guys hit the dams?

Sounds like a good day. I usually fish all winter long but this year has been different because we have been house shopping and there is also a 16 month old little boy at home that I have been staying home and wrestling with.

Now that sounds like a great way to spend a cold winters day! Congrats on the nice pike.

Wish I had taken my camera. My cell was up at the car charging. I didn't want to walk that distance to get it. Thinking about it I should have. To tell the truth, I didn't really think I'd get a bite. Just wanted to toss a few and get out of the house. Goes to show you that you should always come prepared!

I need to do dam fishing. Even though theere can be soft water found around here, this is the time of year most bass guys go hunting sauger in the waters below locks on teh ohio. I would like to give this a shot.
