Lots of gin clear water around here...Watermelon with heavy black glitter (watermelon-seed?) is as close to a lock as your going to get.

Both work well,often at the same time.
I do have a personal preference for red flake when using melon,but all mfg color isnt the same with some making melon opaque rather than see thru,thus a more colored water bait like green pumpkin.
Smoke works in ultra clear and cloudy somewhat depending upon how its constructed some one sees light well thru some you cant.

Default neck and neck

If it had to be one, it would be Green Pumpkin, but I usually start with watermelon red, just because it seems like in my waters, when WR is on IT IS ON!!!! GP is always either on a second pole or close at hand to switch, if WR isn't producing.
