Default KS Bass

My good friend Ron and I were able to get away today to do some fishing on a lake that is about an hour away that neither of us had ever fished. We had heard good things about the small lake and decided that we would give it a try.

We managed to catch 6 fish between the two of us and had a great time on the water. Fish came on a variety of baits, LC Gunfish, Swimjigs, Jika, and a Football jig and trailer. Had a couple of nice blow ups on frogs, but was not able to hook-up. Next time I guess.

Good friends and fishing, does it get any better than that?

You're absolutely right, it doesn't get any better than that. Glad you guys had a good day fishing and a good time.

Sounds like an awesome day! Can't be a day of just relaxing and doing some fun fishing.

Sounds like a great day, Tav! Boy, I'm sure looking forward to that getting started here -- lots of fishing with family and friends once our season opens...my countdown spreadsheet says we're down to 45 days as of today.

I feel for you man, these pics everyone is posting of their catches must be about to drive you crazy.

You have a great spot to fish, I am sure you and your wife will be tearing them up with your family and friends in no time.

I'm sure looking forward to it, but I did get my first 5 bass of the year in IA a couple weekends ago, so that helped take the edge off a bit. We're headed up to the cabin/lake this weekend to open things up for another season, so the dock and lift will get shoved back into the water and maybe we'll even get the boat out and put it up on the lift. Keep the pictures coming...gives me something to pass my time for now.

Kevin, we headed out to Butler Co. lake. We need to make a trip out there, it is close and has allot of different structure and cover than we usually fish.

Thanks, I was very impressed with the little lake, did not expect it to be so much different than what I usually fish.

By golly I should have recognized that lake was Butler, the dock and boat ramp are right behind your buddy in that first picture. Butler might be my favorite bass lake in KS, caught lots of good fish out of there over the years. It's definitely pressured though. Still fun to fish. There's a lot of fat channel cats in there too.

Butler State Fishing Lake is my (and my buddies') go-to fishing lake. We didn't get a boat until this year, but last year (when we all really started bass fishing), we had some real good catching while shore fishing in the creek areas.

My first biggun' (4 lb) was off a popper back in the creek. That same night, my buddy caught a 5 lber. Summertime, those fish KILL frog lures back in the creeks.

Got out to Kingman this last Sunday. Windy as hell, but I was able to pull in a 3lber, and 2lber.

The fish there do seem to enjoy the frog. Lot of good water to throw one in.

Well we hit the lake again on Mon. The bite was slow in the morning, but as the afternoon warmed the water the frog bite really turned on. I was fishing with kpbass, and he put on a clinic on how to use the spro 65 frog. He ended the day with probably 15 or more fish, and I managed to catch 3 on the Jika rig and frog mixed in. Ron took the photos and caught a couple on the dam with a football jig. This little lake is very impressive and seems to be about ready to explode with good fishing.
