traveling again ...
This time I am staying within the Lower 48. Going to Stockton, CA for three weeks, starting July 19th. I know water levels suck now, with the drought in full force. I sympathize with all the people suffering from it. But I hope the Stanislaus River is up enough for me to get some fishing in.
Maybe someone wants to take me out on The Delta? Just saying. |

I went fishing both days over the weekend. Saturday, I tried the upper reaches of the Stanislaus River for trout. Didn't catch a thing all day.
Sunday, I waded the lower stretch and had a good day catching little bass. The water was clear and the fish were fun and pretty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHlN...ature=youtu.be |

But it is a dry heat ... that is what everyone said in Vegas two weeks ago at 104 degrees.

Waded the San Joaquin River again today. Caught over 40 fish. Nothing big, but these little river bass can fight!

A different San Joaquin River
Yesterday, I was fishing deeper holes behind every log and weed bed in the river. Steep banks on both sides kept the winds to a manageable level. I caught all those fish and had a great time. I should've quit while I was ahead, LOL.
I had fun today, to be sure, but after getting to my starting point, today was quite different. I did catch 8 fish. Six of them were the same as yesterday's and I didn't photo them. Then I caught these two, almost back to back, along one section of the river bank. I think photo 1 is a Small Mouth, and photo 2 is a Spotted Bass. The markings on the sides and the colors ... anyway, they are the two largest bass of the whole trip. And them it all changed. As soon as I turned the corner, the river flattened out. (photo 3) There were fewer logs and weeds and it was almost all shallow. I could see carp swimming all over, but most of them didn't seem to be feeding. I did see a few that were and I tried for them, hooking two but landing none. The wind really kicked up and without banks on both sides, it got too windy for me. |

Travelling to the Chicago area for five weeks, starting in January. If the weather holds, I might even get to do some fishing up there.
