Default birthday weekend fishing

Wife and I just got back from a weekend at Melvern. Weather kind of sucked and we had a couple mishaps but still got plenty of fishing in. Nicole wasted no time and caught her new personal best smallmouth and the biggest smallie of the trip less than 20 minutes after getting there. 2lbs 12ozs and 17".

I didn't catch anything worth taking a picture of the first day. It poured last night and stormed way harder than I wish it would have since we were tent camping. I went out by myself in the morning since it was still raining and started slow but the quality went up for me.

I spent a lot of time trying to fish slow and was getting frustrated with the lake of activity. I picked up a spinnerbait and it was quickly obvious I was on to something, they were smashing the spinnerbait.

After tearing them up on spinnerbaits for a little bit the rain stopped, the wind died down, and the sun even came out for a little bit so I picked Nicole up and we went back out for a couple hours. I caught several more on spinnerbaits and shakeyheads and she caught a couple smallmouth and a nice crappie on a little H2O crank.

Unfortunately on the way home my truck started to shake really badly so we pulled over. When I got by the front passenger tire I could feel the heat coming off of it and the roater was superheated. Had to have the truck towed to the shop and my parents came and picked us up and pulled the boat home, not how I wanted to end my birthday weekend

Sorry about the truck, that always sucks. Least you caught some fish and happy birthday. When was it? We might share one because mine was today (Sunday).

Happy birthday, blue and happy birthday, AYG!

Sorry about your truck problems, blue. Hope it gets fixed quickly. Nice job on the fish even if the weather didn't cooperate as you would have liked. Those are great pics! And congrats to Nicole on catching her PB Smallie...that is awesome!

Too bad about the truck but congrats on an enjoyable outting, and happy birthday too! The colors in the crappie Nicole is holding are amazing.

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys. Got my truck back and it was not nearly as expensive as I was expecting so that was good news. That crappie my wife caught is what they look like during the spawn around here. They turn darker and move up into the shallows along the rocks and wood, some of them will be almost all black.
