Cheap way to get on the water!?

What you'll need:

4 Pool Floats (the kind you lay on)
4 pool noodles
some rope
two 1, or 1/2 inch flat things of ply wood (enough to cover the floats)

So here's my idea, tell me what you think!

So you take the floats, and attach them two by two on top of each other, using water proof super glue. once you got them like that, take the ply wood and put one under the floats, and one over them. Take a drill and some screws and drill them together, with the floats between them.

Once you got that, you take the noodles, and cut them into, 8" pieces, and put holes in them, about every two inches. Than take the rope, and but it through the holes, and around the screws, to lace them all together.

And if you don't wanna stand up, than get some kinda lawn chair and put it up top to sit on!

If each float is 5 bucks, than 20 bucks for that. And probably a buck each for the noodles, so that 24 bucks. And than with the ply wood, around 10 buck each I say. So if you all ready have the rope and screws, than that should be only about 44 bucks to get your self on the water!

Now to me, that sounds like it'll be pretty stable, enough to hold one man. To move around, just get some ores, and a low propulsion troll motor.

Personally I think you'd be better off to invest the $44 in a pair of waders cause you're gonna end up waist deep in it one way or another. (On the other hand for 44 bucks what have you got to lose?)

That sounds pretty nice, but with the abundance of gators down here, it seems to risky.

To me it seems like a raft would deter a gator better than the other two options.

ROFL...I'm not going anywhere near alligators unless I have a minimum of 1/8" of some kind of metal between me and their chompers.

To them gators.. Your raft would look like one of those little Happy Meal Boxes that you get at McDonalds.

What ever happened to strapping,young lads getting after school jobs?
You know Boss,I see 10ft aluminum jon boat in great shape go for $80-$100 on craigslist...Especially now with winter and christmas,I bet you could find a good deal on one..Just keep checking once a day.

You did leave out the cost of a volleyball that you will nmae "wilson"

Have you ever seen one of the noodles that has been in the water for a long time? We have a pool at our house and I find that we replace the noodles constantly because they begin to absorb too much water and start to crumble.

If you are set on creating a floating gator serving tray

then I would suggest building your frame out of PCV and putting it through the noodles.

Lastly, check your local boating regulations, if you add a motor, you just might have to register your "boat"

That's a good idea cass, I'll see if I can can do the the PCV pipe thing.

My dad also suggested using bleach containers, those things have gone across oceans!

I remember when I was his age and thinking along those lines.

Its just not cost effective. I say save up $100 or so dollars, and live on craigslist.com for the next couple months. People sometimes put boats up for free to get them out of their yard, or super, super cheap. I just missed on a kayak 2 days ago, wanted $50 for it.

Also do remember you have to figure out how you will transport the boat to the water. I bought a sevler inflatable boat, spent over $100 bucks on it as a kid, and then realized it was too big to blow up at the pond and there was no electrical outlets near the water to use an electric pump. Ended up only using it a handful of times when we tied it, already inflated, to my friends truck.

$150 canoe....

Was looking around the inter webs and found a way to get make a pontoon out of 2 littler soda bottles and wood!

Alls we gots to do is go around the neighborhood(s) and get the recycle stuff and throw them in the back of the truck! It'll take about 50 of 'em to hold us up! All we need is water proof glue and tape and we tape & glue them together. 20 or so on each side and a flat thing of wood (like the one tom posted

). It'll 10' long 6' wide!

With me luck, and I'll try to get pics!

And I think we've found something more practical than lawn chairs. We're gonna try to fasten a a swivel seat onto a 5 gallon bucket for 360* degree castability!
