Default cut-tail worms

I haven't tried a cut-tail worm, but I see them a lot. What application makes them a better choice than straight tails, ribbontails, or curltails?

I like a 4" cut-tail as a finesse worm on a slider head, or as a drop shot bait when I fish it horizontal. I rig the cut UP and it wiggles side-to-side like a minnow's tail on the drop and drag. They fall between a straight tail's subtle tail action (which I prefer on a vertical drop shot) and the ribbon tail's manic tail action (I rarely use them on a drop shot but they're great on a slider head with a lift/drop retreive). I'm not so fond of the cut-tail in the "normal" worm size.

There are times when bass don't want an action tail, so Kut Tails might be good under those conditions. But they're just one of countless soft plastics out there and often our choices have to be somewhat arbitrary.
