Default Snake information

Here is some information for anyone that is on the water and freaks out when seeing any kind of snake.

There is a quick way to tell if the snake swimming near or at you is a water moccasin or just a harmless banded water snake. Moccasins are extremely bouyant and rarely go under water willingly. You can see almost the entire body of a water moccasin when it is swimming. Only small areas of a moccasin will be underwater while it is swimming.

Harmless water snakes are mostly totally submerged when swimming. You typically see only the head and just a few spots along the body. Water snakes will also go under water often.

Typically, the nonpoisonous snakes which reside with the Water Moccasins are longer, less stout-bodied, flee when approached, and exhibit round pupils, along with a plain yellowish or white belly void of any band markings.

This video shows a moccasin. See how high in the water it is swimming.

This is a video of a harmless water snake. See, its head is the only thing above the water.
