Default What tackle are you getting for Father’s Day?

So apparently my son has been discussing what to get Dad for Father’s Day (FD) with his Mom. He’s been bugging me to get a longer net so he and his little brother can try and scoop up little bluegills and frog hanging around the banks. Now he keeps telling me to tell the wife not to get me a net for FD. I’m like “wait, I never asked for a net for FD. You wanted the net, not me”. So the wife has been asking me quite frequently what I want. Of course, as I’m sure most you do, I start thinking about Bass Pro Shop, Cabelas, Dick’s Sporting Goods, you know, fishing tackle retailers.

I figure I won’t try and disrupt the budget…too much. Maybe spend around $100.00. I definitely want a new reel / rod combo. I’ve been eyeing the Quantum Code Combo. Dicks has it for $120.00. But I’ve also been thinking about jumping into the world of Shimano spinning reels. I’m sure I can find a combo for around the same as the Code price range. So give me a suggestion or two and tell me what you’re thinking about getting for FD.

My current main tackle:

Baitcaster Reel: Abu Garcia, Suffix Braid- 20lb test

Spinning Reel: Pflueger President 6735, Suffix Braid- 20lb test

Maybe try to get a crankbait combo. Nice medium action medium power 7' rod with a code or the likes, not too fast of a retrieve. I like to throw spinnerbaits and medium to shallow cranks on the same combo.

I told my wife I want a gift certificate to tacklewarehouse.com or Gander Mountain. I have misplaced my polarized Costa Del Mar's somewhere. I have been wanting to try the Wiley's. Or I asked her to talk to my bro-in-law. He gets a 40% discount on Oakley's. I hate to open a can of worms, but good optics matter.

I got a Shimano Sedona (about $45) a while back with a Gander Mnt 6'6 M ($45) rod for around $90. It has been pretty pleasing since I took the Berkley flourocarbon off. I don't know if it is the line, or the reel. But it is doing better with the mono. I might try to half spool it on top of the mono with braid.

I seen where Abu Garcia is offering a free pair of WileyX with the purchase of a $150 Revo.
