Default Skunked, but high hopes

Put my little boat in Little Platte Lake last night. Motored over to the deepest part of the lake, which is only 8'.
Didn't have an anchor and the breeze was having it's way with my boat. Set myself up in some fairly heavy lily pads and started castin a Spro Jr. Ended up with 1 strike, but apparently the guilty culprit wasn't too serious about the whole thing.

When I got near the end of the pads, I saw something big in the water. Was starting to think it was a log until I noticed another a few feet in front of him, and they started movin. Unfortunately, they were swimmin away
This morning I pulled out the lake map guide and the only fish they mention for that lake are bass, gills and crappies, so it's holdin some biguns for sure.

Decided to head for a cove that I'd never been to (3rd time on the lake and the 2nd time was long enough to realize my battery was bad, so I don't know the lake at all).

On the way there I threw out a Clackin Rap. Once I had it almost to the boat I realized 4 or 5 bass were really swarming around it, but then they realized they were near a boat and split. those ones went probably 12-18".

So, skunked, but with high hopes!

I went night fishing the other night and sort of enjoyed it. It was the first time in years. I reckon since I was in college and snuck in the dean's pond. I think I am going to try before the full moon next time though. We have a state lake with a ton of lillies down the road and I might try it if the wife will let me out one more time before the baby.

Sadly, I saw plenty of carp when I was there this afternoon. Did see a monster bass when I was dropping anchor though.
Learning how to use Spro Frogs. About a dozen nice hits on it today but not a single hook-up.
Ended up catching 1 dink on an XPS Nitro Minnow

that was when he'd fish from his dinosaur. By the way John, I'm pretty sure they're in the water, the big 'uns are anyways.

Thanks! And it paid off. Not with a bundle of fish, since I practically limited myself to the Spro Frog, But I did land my 1st Spro bass, so I was pretty excited about that!
1 Alabamar 2 Alabamar CROSS HIS EYES! lol
Several blow ups again today, 1 nice one hooked but got off when I was hung up in the lilys and the 1 I got into the boat. He was hooked hard and deep. Had to get the pliers out for that one.
1st fish made the day for me when he came out of the water about 3', then the 2nd, on the Spro, really sweetened the pot
Here's a couple bass pics and some of the lake.

Wet spots are always a plus. Yeah, he was a dink but I was fired up when I got him outta those pads. Consider me a die hard Spro guy when they're layin up in there now. I'll be buying more real soon. This one's taken a beatin.

That spot is pretty nice. That one stretch of pads is probably 150 yards long.

You got that right! I was tryin to explain it to a couple guys at work today and they seemed pretty skeptical. Told 'em that even the day before when I got a dozen blow ups with zero hook sets, it was still exciting.
Authority sums it up pretty well, spro. Nuthin like water and pads exploding as they go after that frog!

Hit the lake again today in pretty poor weather. Really windy, chilly and got rained on for a bit.
Found an even better and bigger stretch of pads on a different side of the lake. Sadly, between casting, reeling and trying to keep my boat in 1 spot (even with the anchor), I neglected to get any lily pics (sorry bama).
Supposedly in the 60s and partly sunny tomorrow, and wind 1/2 what it was today, so I'll be heading back out to that spot.
Took a dink from there, and one from the old spot today.

I think this has now become my favorite lake.Beautiful day out there today! Water so calm, I locked the trollin motor in place, stood up the whole way across the lake lookin for fish, and steered it like a Harley.
Hit the new pads pretty hard today with some pretty good action overall.
Didn't get a pic or weight on the 1st fish I caught. Tried to grab his lip 3 or 4 times and he was havin none of it. Finally, he flipped himself off the hook.
He woulda topped fish #2 by 1/2 # is my guess.
Fish 2 went 3.0 and fish 3 (who I thought was a monster till I saw him for the 1st time!) went 2.3.
Got 2 smallies as well, but only took a pic of 1. The first one was REALLY small.
Some more pics of the lake if you're interested.
By the way, both smallies hit on an XPS Nitro Minnow in Chrome Clown, and the Largemouths were all caught on a black and yellow Bobby's Perfect Frog.
I really need to get to Gander Mountain and buy some more, since they're half off $6.99!

lol as long as it's only a flesh wound...
Originally, I had that lake pegged as nuthin but a cold weather lake, a place to go when they moved deep in the other lakes, but it is seriously growing on me. 15 minutes away, fantastic scenery, smooth as glass on a calm day.
Lily Pads like crazy.
The first smallie I caught there was so light colored it took me a few seconds to realize what he was.

On a side note, checked out the boat launch on Lake Ann today on my lunch break. Lily pads just to the left of the launch! lol
Checked the board at the launch. Smallies, Largemouths, Northerns, Rockies, Gills & Crappie.

OH MY!
