SLow Day turns to new PB!!!
Went out to the lake saturday and it looked like a great fishing day. It was not too hot and it was calm. We get there at 7:30, a little late, but we get there and put in at our little local lake.
We stop at a cove right out to try to catch crappie and we usually catch 50 in a matter of minutes. But we had no bites. We couldn't even see any. So we hit a under water island for crappie and bass. We usuall get bites like crazy but there was no bites. After 2 hours we had two bream that we caught fishing for crappie. We decided to hit this bank that has a grass bed running beside it with a drop off after that. We got about half way down it and there was not bites. It got cloudy so I threw out a spinnerbait and then on the first cast a 2 pounders killed it. I thought I figured out a pattern with the grass. I continue casting over, into, and near the grass but no bites. I then decided to work the drop off. I threw the 1/4 ounce spinnerbait along the drop off and let it fall all the way to the bottom. It let it sit for about 3 minutes and then I started to reel it. On the second reel I felt a "tick-tick" and I set the hook. It felt like I set a hook in a log like I have done before. THe rod bent over and there was no movement but then it slowly started to move side ways and then the line shot off. I had a medium-heavy rod, 30 pound braid, and a 7.1/1 reel with no drag and it was stripping my line. I finally get it to the top of the water to see it and it was no log. MY buddy netted it and I was pumped. Almost 8 pounds. 7 pounds 10 ouonces. We only had three bites all day, but it was worth it.

Man, that is a pig. Nice looking fish. Good thing you were using the heavy gear and not 4 lbs line and a crappie jig. Nice, man, very nice.

Man...that fish is THICK!! A lot of big bass are all belly, but not that guy. He looks like a 1-1/2 lb. bass that stepped into the "Honey, I blew up the kids" ray. Purdy fish.

yeah...It was very active...I wanted to make sure it didn't get loose and get back into the water before the picture. Then nobody would believe us. Because the lake we were on is not suppose to produce sizes like that.

Thats a beauty for sure. It's funny, but some of my biggest bass have come on slow days. Maybe it's because it makes you really think it all out and work it extra hard. Nice catch buddy.

My 2 biggest bass also came on slow days - 3 fish days to be exact. I can remember several cases where single 5 lbers also came on super slow days. Funny how that happens. They also all came more towards the middle or afternnon of the day.
But my 2 best smallmouth did come on days with some numbers- although the last one was a dink fest till the big one showed up.
