Nitro,
Sounds like it's South America or Mexico. I saw an article in the latest Outdoor Life I believe, about a fishing contest on the Illinois River. These are asian or silver carp and the sound of the boat/motor causes them to jump like that. The article was about a fishing derby fishing for these carp and whomever had the most fish in the boat won, only you couldn't use rods! Had to catch them with a net or hit 'em with a 2x4. I believe the winner had over 200 lbs of fish!

Apparently they are an invasive species and they are ruining the habitat for the native fish. Director of the tourney said they can't even take a pleasure ride up the river without getting slimed up side the head by one of these carp. This tournament collected 1,200 of the slimy lads.
