Fishing top water baits

Okay so here's the thing. I want to know if its okay to fish topwater baits when its windy? If your in open water or out on a point and the water is choppy is topwater a bad choice?? I mean it seems like with all the choppy water a little topwater splash isn't going o attract very much attention (like a chug bug or something).

For me, the calmer the water the better. On that note, my rule of thumb is always start on top and work your way down, in the early morning and evening, when they're cruising the shallows and lookin for some action.
I prefer calm water over choppy any day. With that being said, I've caught plenty of largemouths and rock bass in a river right below a dam, with a jitterbug.
Really just depends on how close to the surface they are

Depends on your choice of top water lure but for most applications the answer is YES! Windy days can be the best for the top water bite using a buzzbait or pop R or spook.

I love a spook when there's some chop on the water. The poppers, chug bugs, etc I usually use when it's calmer.

I fish topwater a disproportionate amount of the time, although I don't use the full variety of baits. Any buzzbait and a 5/8 oz. Jitterbug do very well in choppy water.

if your fishing them on a windy day try fishing harder and rougher so that the fish can see it through the waves and choppy water.

sure you can easily do that just make sure that you don't keep it all on the top of water so that i't can see it. also if you have any buzzbaits you might consider using that.

i read something about kevin vandam using buzzbaits in choppy water and it worked cause it looked a shad flipping across the water

I like walking baits in the chop, the bigger the better. Go with poppers and frogs when its more still. I don't have that much confidence in a buzzbait in the day, except in low light so I can't advise on that.

Yep, but it has been my experience the more chop the more noise the bait needs to make. Prop baits, walkers like a spook and buzzbaits are all good choices.
