Default USPS broke three of my rods

I was in Kentucky and had to come back to finish getting chemotherapy. My dad and I packed eight rods for shipping and insured it for $800. Three rods broke. A Cabela's Tourney Trail worth about $70 new, a BPS Pro Qualifier worth $120 new, and a BPS Performance Graphite worth $99 new.

The post office wants me to prove their value before getting reimbursed. The BPS ones are two years old, and the Cabela's is three. How am I supposed to prove their value? I don't have the receipts. They say sentimental value doesn't count, but my son caught his first bass on the Pro Qualifier.

What's the point of buying insurance if this is what they put you through?

You should not have to. This just stinks to high HEAVEN. I would get their current price and argue with them.

If you paid for the insurance, you should not have to prove anything.

USPS sucks! They have lost more stuff I've ordered. I ordered a Tom Brady jersey for my daughter to wear to a church function and they lost it. Didn't show up until over a week later. That's just one example.

Sorry to hear that. But here's a thought...

I know a few people on the forum have the Pro Qualifiers. Make a post asking if anyone still has their receipt from these rods. I'm sure they'd be happy to loan them to you!

Well them no good rotten son of *****en mother ****ers. I have hated UPS with a passion for quite a while and now I make a point of never using those ignorant ****suckers for anything else ever again.
I haven't had any trouble with USPS although I take extra measure when shipping rods to make sure they arrive unbroken.

C-Bird, Just remember, it takes more muscles to frown than it does to extend that middle finger and say, "Bite Me"

Yeah, it was USPS (United States Postal Service). Their rules seem ridiculous. I can't find the original ads for the rods, I didn't save the receipt. I'm gonna' go tomorrow and see what they say. The thing I think I may have a problem with is that I packed them myself - extremely well, tons of popcorn and bubblewrap, I mean I was shocked that any would break, my dad thought I was overdoing it. The whole box was crushed. I'm just glad my G Loomis is alright. But I haven't showed my boy his broken rod yet, it meant alot to him.

Again, I'm sorry to hear that, Pat. I hope USPS will figure out how much a rod means to a fisherman as a paycheck does to them. I hate when stuff like that happens to good people.

I think I might still have catalogs from a couple years ago if that would help.

yeah best of luck...that is bull****. i would think if you raised enough hell over it they would eventually pay up with or without a reciept. i would start with the post master and go over his/her head if i had to.

Should have gone with FED-X. did you have insurance on the package? I wouldn't have signed for it untill they did something for the damage. I would have gone king kong right there.

PATRICK,
Contact Cabelas customer service. They may have a file in thier computer that lists every item that you have ever bought, showing the date and price. Bass pro used to do this, possibly Cabelas does the same. It is worth a try.

Just grab your BPS and Cabela's catalogs and show them the prices or print off of the internet. I agree with the post about it should not have to matter since you paid for that coverage. Sorry about your loss.

PATRICK,
I was in Kansas City today at Cabelas, and I asked at the information desk about files that Cabelas keeps. They advised that anything you bought from Cabelas thru a catalog order or bought in the store with a credit card will be on the list under your name. If you have a fire in your house, Cabelas will furnish a complete list of everything you have ever bought via catalog or credit card to furnish to your insurance company as proof of loss. I am sure they could furnish you a verification of the rods you had broke. Give them a call.
I am sure that BPS does the same thing if anyone ever needs it.
