my first frog fish
so today i got a new first. i got my first fish on a frog. it was at this lake where there are lilly pads everywhere. i was with a friend of mine and we had started out as me using a power worm and him a spinner bait then jig. then we both switched over to t rigged yum dingers and ended up with some small ones.... or "micros as he calls them..." so then i switched over to a yum buzz frog green pumpkin on a 5/0 ewg hook. on my first cast one explodes on it about 10 feet away and never hit agaion. after a few more casts i got one!! it was only small but i was still proud because it was my first frog fish. then we kept going down and i was lobbing it into thick pads when this one pig just clobbers it!! unfortunatly i got to excited and set the hook to early. a couple minutes later he smashed it again. this time i think i had him. i think he was barely hooked because he ran into thick pads and popped of.... he was nice like 5 to 7 lbs. i know my new favorite presentation....

I've really been throwing the frog a lot this year. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to catch bass. Congrats on your first frog fish!

Congrats. Hits like that will get the ole heart pimpin for sure. That Yum buzz frog is a frog you don't hear too much about but I know from having used it, it's a dynamite frog bait, as is the Strike King Rage Toad!

i think next time i will buy zoom horny toads or rage toads. i tried the buzzfrog yesterday and all the stupid thing did was run upside down. unless i did something wrong..., i was using a 5/0 hook. is that bad?

To me the horny toad is the senko of frogs/toads. I have over 25 different brands of toads and the horny toad outfishes them all. I may be biased to my home waters but this has been the case for me. I've also started fishing them with a bullet weight and letting them sink to the bottom. I recently read that frogs will dive down to the bottom to hide in the mud. Once they hit bottom sort of try to dig them in to the mud, weeds or bottom debris.

I use a 3/0 EWG Gammy Superline hook for mine. I straightened a couple of the regular EWG 3/0's horsing fish out of the slop, so I went to the Superlines.

Congrats on the first frog fish.
I've used the Buzzfrog, Horny Toads, and Rage Tails. I definately like the Horny and Rage Tail toads the best. I use a 5/0 Owner Twistlock or a 4 or 5/0 EWG gammy. BB
