Hard bodied Bass lures ?

I've been fishing primarily Saltwater in Fla. for a number of years. I do fish freshwater from time to time, using mostly palstic worms. I need to know what are your favorite hard bodied lures for Bass? Please be specific, brand names and colors. All feedback will be appreciated.

i use both. the gulp shad in new penny being a top preformer for me. x-raps trolled along and bandit 200 also being favored fake baits. live finger mullet, shrimp,pogie's,spots are what i use alot of.. i use a cast net. while i do move a bunch while fishing the salt marsh. i do tend to put out at least 3 rods if i see tailing fish or bait bustin the surface.

Zooker don't have a corner on the crankbait market-he's got a few more than me but it is (or used to be until he "inherited" a tackle store) close.

Jim, welcome to the forum!

To be truthful you can get by with just a few baits for starters. Here is what I'd stock a tackle box with to get started, in no particular order:

1/2 oz. chrome/blue back Rat-L-Trap. Just be sure to sharpen or better yet change the hooks. The stock hooks are about as sharp as a Q-tip.

A pearl/black back Bandit 100. Small, square billed crankbait. A square billed bait runs shallow and is surprisingly snag free. I love to throw one in flooded timber.

A deep running crawfish color-Bandit 300, Rapala DT-10, Bomber Model A. I throw these shallow so they dig into the bottom kicking up a mud trail like a crawfish.

A 1/2 oz. Smokey Joe Rat-L-Trap. See above.

A chrome or shad color jerkbait-Bomber Long A, Cordell Redfin-there are a number of different brands out there. Good for warmer water.

A suspending jerkbait-good for cold water. Bomber Suspending A, Smithwick Rogue, or if you want to spend the $ a Lucky Craft pointer. these baits will suspend under water and just sit there. Not all that productive in warm water but can be killer in cold water.

A Norman Deep Little N, shad color. these run 10-12 feet deep and are productive anywhere from real shallow down.

Now, if you are like most of us this collection will grow expontionally.

The key to fishing a lipped bait is contact-you want it to bounce off cover-rocks, wood, etc. Strikes usually come when it deflects off something.

Lipless baits work better around grass-if you hang up and rip it free it can generate some hard strikes.

when we moved here, right across from the launch is a store. it was empty at first, then a couple opened it up, i thought it was gonna be a bait and tackle, but nooooo. just beer and crap. it would make a fantastic bait shop. right across from the launch, plenty of parking, plenty of square footage to stock LOTS of baits. it would really do well i think. if i EVER win the dang ol lottery, i am gonna buy that place and stock it up for what it SHOULD be.

lol all but the top box is used on a regular bases... i only have 6 rods set up for cranking.. so there is 6 baits missing..

J.P. - You can't go wrong with Bandit, Norman, and Strike King. There are a few more brands that I like specific baits like the Mann's Baby 1, Lucky Craft RC 1.5 and 2.5, Luhr Jensen Speed Trap, and others. Rapala DT series have a good reputation around here too. Match the baits with the depth you are targeting and buy one or two and test them out. Colors - can't go wrong with the different Shads like Tenn. or Sexy. Firetiger has it's place too.
