Default Bass contest update.

So far there are nine entries. A lot of good questions have been asked. For those of you who live in Georgia and Cali. maybe use another state close to you for size. Any other ideas on that? The piece of paper with your photo and name sounds good. Also measurements with a rule or something to size identfy with. Since there aren't any entries other than large and smallmouth let's limit it to those. The sticky idea sounds great. How is that done? Seems like we'll use the % idea to determine winning fish.
Those in so far.

What if you were to round off any state with a record over 20 lbs at 20? So for Georgia, they would use 20 lbs as their state record, which would mean half of that would be 10 - a tough mark for anyone to get to....

There have been a few freakish fish that have popped out of a couple states....just a suggestion....

I am all for limiting the larger states to 20 lbs.

For sure, if someone catches a bass over 20 lbs., I am sure they will not mind rounding that off! Plus, I would like to see that bass!

Thats not what it means.

OK, say Georgia, which is the best example, the state record is 22-4 oz.

If someone in Georgia catches an 8 pound bass, what we were gonna do was divide 8 lbs by 22.25 to get their contest score....it would be .359 using the old system.

Since 22.25 was such an unusual bass, we are going to use 20.00 in the rare state like Georgia to give those guys a little bit better chance...otherwise people from Georgia and California, but especially Georgia, would have almost no chance cause you have a freak bass screwing up their stats.

So, how much difference does that tweak make? Not all that much, a little...it means an 8 pound bass caught it Georgia...8/20=.4.

Now some people need to break out their calculators and do a little thinking, whether yall really want to do this...cause it seems there could be arguments made either way...also 20 was a nice round number, I originally was gonna say 19 or 18.

(PS, check my math, cause I'm an idiot and stuff)

It's just 5 bucks, it's all in fun. That is all that matters to me. I know I probably won't put a dent towards our 18 lb mark, but hey, you never know.

While on a job today, I found out about a lake that regularly gives up 6# smallmouths.

All right, thanks WTL, now I understand it better. Like you said, not much difference, but it could matter. Thanks

Is there another thread with the rules? I'll probably try it even though legally I can't fish for bass until late fall or some stupid time in this police state.

I do feel bad for Massachusetts though, 15#8oz. must have been a fluke or genetically mutated bass.

3rd Saturday in June in my county, but next county over it is open all year catch and release. Typical for this state with all kinds of crazy laws. I got me a perch rod for the spring though.

Even though I can't legally fish for bass until 5/29, you can count me in if it's not too late.
