Default Seen the Opossum tonight!

I know that most members here won't care but we went and seen George Jones tonight in concert. I was a little nervous when it was 2 minutes after show time and he still wasn't on stage, I thought we were in for a "No Show Jones" concert lol. Seriously the old mans voice is not quite where it used to be and neither is his stamina but I didn't go to the show to hear him at his best, I have his cd's for that. I went because I wanted to see one of the best country music artists in history and that was worth the price of admission. He still sounded pretty good though and he is a great entertainer, he kept the crowd laughing with a lot of funny stories and jokes. I have a list of country music artists that I want to see in concert in my lifetime, a bucket list of sorts. I missed my boat with Chris Ledoux, most likely Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash and obviously Waylon Jennings but it was nice to cross George Jones off the list. Still have several more to go including Merle Haggard who will be here in July.

Does he still have that perfect hair? My former father in law reminded me of him. I like his voice.

Kory,

I am very jealous. I have seen several of the greats, but never George Jones. Congrats on being able to cross it off your list.

I have seen him twice. Both times were awesome! I have seen Garth and Ledoux three times each and was fortunate enough to meet Chris before he died. My uncles band opened for them when they were here.

Waylon and Johnny would have be awesome to see as well.

Bob he still has great hair, it is shorter than it used to be however lol.

Cass I am thrilled that I got to see him. There are lots of greats who I still want to see but crossing him off my list was great and if he played again tonight I would be there to see it again.

CamG Chris Ledoux is one of my all time favorites, right up there with George Jones and Waylon who is with out a doubt my all time favorite. Garth is a different kind of great though, a lot more energy in his music which I like but it's not the same as the classic country that is so special to me. Garth is for sure on my list of favorites and you are lucky to have seen him and Ledoux.

Sounds like ya had a good time....I'm not into the country music as much as I was when I was younger, but I still appreciate many of the old country music legends, such as George, Willie, and Waylon.....I've always had a soft spot for Marty Robbins, but I've never seen him in concert....got to see Hank Jr and Willie Nelson on a couple of occasions...they put on a great show.

I am sure that I am not the only one who can rememeber when the big names would play a small county fair. I saw Conway Twitty and Charlie Pride one year at the Rockingham County fair.
Of course in the same era I watch Hulk Hogan wrestle at Harrionsburg Highschool.

Marty Robbins and Willie are both greats as well. The thing with Willie though is that I like a handful of his songs really well and I could take or leave a lot of his songs, so I would have to sit through a whole concert to hear a handful of songs that I really like...........I would do it in a heartbeat though lol.

Conway Twitty and Charlie Pride are both on my favorites list. I don't know what would have been cooler, seeing those guys sing in concert or seeing Hulk Mania run wild on Harrionsburg Highschool brother lol.

Dad got to see Don Williams a few years back, I really wish I would have made that show. One good thing is that we have a few casinos close by that are great at getting big names that are 30+ years beyond their prime to put on concerts. It's not like seeing these guys at their best but the ones I really want to see where at their best before I was even a twinkle in my daddies eye. Of course if I would have had tickets to see George Jones in his prime there is a good chance that he wouldn't have even showed up lol.

I got to see and work security for George Jones/Confederate Railroad concert when I was at Murray State about 20 years ago. It was a great show! The question that everyone asked us before the show was "Is he here yet?" I am glad you got to see him.

Kory, this is hilarious, as when I was younger a couple of guys I worked with referred to George Jones as one of their "Holy Trinity," comprised of George Jones, George Strait, and Hank Williams. Those two guys taught me more than I ever thought I would know about Mr. Jones.

Good to know he's still kickin' around.

Those three are true greats of country music. George Strait is another artist on my list of wanna sees.
