Default What brand would you buy for a good quality rod?

I'm planning on buying a good quality rod for one of my main baitcasters, but am havin problems on which brand to pick. I'm thinking about: Loomis, St. Croix, Quantum, All-star. What would every one pick? I'm planning on spending around $150 for a medium action 6.6 foot rod.

St. Croix or Falcon. Good luck finding a Loomis for $150....

a falcon cara will fit in that price range and probably leave you a little money for baits. and a falco cara is my favorite rod out there. st. croix is a good rod as is all star. it would just depend on what felt good to you. but my choice would be a falcon cara.

All the brands you mentioned are good. In fact I own at least one of each of them. Lunk is correct. Forget the Loomis for 150.00. You might find a bronzeback spinning for that but not a casting. Actually I like the Fenwicks as well as any I have. I use diferent rods for different techniques. I like my Allstar for night time spinnerbaits( drop Baits). There is one more upcomer that I have heard good things about. It is made on the west coast. I looked at one recently and will have to say it felt good in the store. It is a Powell.Seemed like it may be a good rod in the 150 - 200 range. Having said all this i guess I would recomment the Fenwick for the money. Fish2win

Woo Davies extremes and right now there $59.88. You could take $90.00 left over and take the bait monkey out on a date. The extremes are nice rods.

Zook, blame the baitmonkey, he just wants you to buy more Loomis rods.

By the way you tried the Fenwick Elite Tech rods yet?

Welcome to the NutHouse... er... I mean Forum. The BPS rod's aren't bad for the price. I just bought a Johnny Morris Signature Series and I like it.

Surprises me that you've broken that many loomis's zook, I've been using them since 1990 and have only broken the crappie rods and one bass rod and all of them I had severely damaged (by stepping on them or smacking them very hard on something) before I broke them.
St. Croix for cranks and spinnerbaits, G.Loomis for anything I actually want to feel the bite/bottom/cover on.

Gator rods
All Star
St Croix (good choice all round)

BUT

But the best rod is the one that you like to use. Regardless of the price of the rod that you like, it will work the best.

Counter weight it and tune it with sandpaper to fit your hands and that 29.95 half price POS single piece rod that has all the grip tape just right will be the best.

In other words find one you like for that application at a good price and buy two.... Never ever buy a two piece rod unless it is for travel.

I am considering the new loomis swimbait rod. Or the BPS Nitro.

IMO, Loomis rods are good, but over-rated. As are swimbaits. (Just my opinion, no one flip out...)
