Default Disapointing Day....

*Rant*

Ok so the day started off with great weather! Nice over cast skys, and weed growth finally starting back up! I'm using my old set up because my good one is out right now. It has braid on it and I was using a flouro leader (triple fish). And I saw my line moving off, so I let it take it and I set the hook! My leader breaks (not the leader knot). Darn. one fish gone. I think my line was frayed some where and check, didn't find anything, but retied anyways. Few casts later, tick tick, let it take it, set the hook. Same thing! Starting to get old, Happens again, and again and again (probably missed 10 fish due to this. ). So finally I say screw leader and take it off and use straight braid! So as I continue fishing this weedy creek of the lake, I see a PIG, bigger than any fish I've seen or caught there before (I've pulled out some 6lb plus fish in there before) I mean this thing is a BEHEMOTH of a bass, over 8lbs easy!!! So I start making pitches to it with my senko. After a few minutes of that, I loose sight of the fish. After that, I set that down and start fishing a t-rigged trick worm onea a light bullet weight. I see the fish about a half hour later, and start sight fishing it again. I let it sit and it sees it, and grabs it! I let it swim off with it, and set up on her (keep in mind this is a light wire hook, and 8lb test). So I make sure my my drag is set good, and we start fighting! 3, minutes in she's starting to tier after a few long runs, and several jump! So I tighten up on my drag and bring it close. I get her a few feet to me, and she make a final lunge for cover, and sice I tightened my drag down, she breaks off!!!!! I go Ike.

So I pick the senko up and fish some more, miss a few more fish (even with straight braid XPS hook from gammikatsu). And pick up a frog, because it's getting weedier, and and send a prayer up. I get to back of the creek, and FINALLY nail a 3 and half pounder! Fish another hour with no fish and call it a day.

Moral of the story, don't use tripple fish as a leader, never tighten your drag until it's OFFICIALLY over, and send the prayer up before you get there!

Hey, at least you got out today. I wanted to but had a few other things I had to take care of first.

Haha! I hear yeah! I through the two spools of it that I had out today, and put on a BPS floro leader, no problems with that! Also tied the new leader with that fish-n-fool leader knot, seems like a strong knot, we'll see today though, gonna try it with some lizards!

BB,

That just plain sucks, sorry to hear about that loss. Tight drag and braid don't make good bed buddies. Set your drag right before hand and leave it be. You might be tempted, but leave it alone, young padawan. Is that XPS hook an extra wide gap typ of hook? If so, you might want to consider using a straight shank worm hook.

Thanks IB! I'll remember that next time!

And I've used straight shank hook for senko's, including off set shank hooks, but Always go back to wide gap!

Typically TF fluoro is good stuff. I've got two reels that have had TF on them for a year now with no problems.

Sorry about your luck! Been there!

Don't tighten the drag but loosen it as the fish gets closer (lesson learned).

And I've seen it way too many times when someone gets a good fish on and reels it up to within a foot or two of the rod tip and the fish busts off.

Tried triple fish last year because of the price. Lost a few fish and the stuff handled terribly.....junked it quickly....go with Seaguar or Trilene100%
