Default Help me im in a slump

well its been pretty cold up here and fairly windy. I have a photo project for school and i need some advice for fishing a small pond. very little vegetation probably most weeds, no pads. and a small island in middle, 15ft deepest. it looks like a wierd shaped peanut. any advice on what to throw? P.S. the fish are too big none over 3 1/4 pounds

if it's been fairly windy try throwing spinners on an angle from where you are fishing ( i am assuming you are fishing of the bank) and maybe try adding a grub trailer , or a c-rigged worm or t-rigged lizzard

A blade is not even close to being too big! especially if you throw something small like a 3/8 or maybe even a 1/4. And I personally think you can never go wrong throwing a lizard in a pond. Or a worm or whatever you like to throw.

yeah dude strike king has the mini kings and booyah has the pond magic spinners which are both a smaller version , if you think your spinners are to big try one of those but even smaller fish will hit are bigger lure and i think most the guys here will agree with that .

I have a habit of throwing pink floating worms in ponds, the wind might negate that but I would still try. Sometimes when you are in a slump you need to change things up.

Little bass will still hit big spinnerbaits...

Heres proof

I just dont know where the fish are at this time of year. Are they shallow or deep. the water cant be over 50. I know they are there so i will try a spinnerbait. Now how should i go about setting the hook on this here spinnerbait? i have never caught a fish on one. Is it a sweeping motion or what or just a regular hook set?

Just keep fishing, eventually you'll catch one, raise your confidence, and the slump will be over.

well you all were right. I threw a spinner and got a few hits but it was liek they were bumping it but i think i just pulled it out of their mouths. Me papa caught a few on a rooster tail and i got two on a senko. Boy were they small. I love the spinner though, i just got to learn how to set the hook. When i miss a hit should i slow down the retrieve or just keep going like nothing happened?

Missed hooksets? Short-biting?

TRAILER HOOK!

Add a 1/0-2/0 trailer hook to that spinnerbait and you'll cath 95% of those missed fish.

When it's under 50 I never have done very well. The best luck I've had in cold water was with either 8" or 10" worms and attractant. I barely moved them, just small twitches.

When it's closer to 60 or higher someone on here told me to throw rattle traps when it's windy. I've had pretty good luck with that but throwing cranks is a last resort for me.

bass n cast, try to slow roll your spinner, and like buzzie said put a trailer hook on (maybe with a pork rind?). or you can reel, let it sink, reel again.
