This is Stephen Headrick's website. He's the authority on Dale Hollow smallmouth. There's several articles on that site that should do you some good.

They sure work well in river current, that I do know. You can throw a curly tail jig and grub on there too. Fishing FnF bores the heck out of me. It's the bobber...

there is all sorts of info here http://www.floatandfly.com/
but I have not had a chance to try it yet. My father in law does plenty of dove and quail hunting so I plan to grab a handful of feathers after his next trip. |

Justin: Been a Fly Fisherman most of my adult life but I have never heard of floatin a fly. Had to give up fly fishing and am a new convert to Bass Fishing. Just what do you do to float a fly. In the fly fishing world there is a dry fly and it floats. Is that what you guys are talking about?

The actual name is "Float 'N Fly..." Basically, it's a hair or feather jig beneath a bobber. Kinda like drowning worms for panfish when growing up. Cast it out and let it sit right in the fishes' face till they can't stand it.

Here's another site, free membership and lots of great info. I am a regular on this board and I can assure you Mike Bucca is a Float n Fly expert. He even got me into it. MY favorite rod is a 12' Bucks Crappie Jig Rod.

I actually just bought some medium green jigs with big flare hair type skirts which should work well for this... going to give it a try when I get a chance to go out to one of the larger lakes (60+ acre lakes).

My father in law finally did some quail hunting and I got a variety of feathers, some small pin feathers which I may try with a small jig for bream, then a larger brown or brown/white feathers behind a 1/8 to 1/4 oz jig head. What makes this one slightly different is it is supposed to imitate a dying or suspending baitfish and you let the bobber and waves handle all the movement.
I will get some pics when I get a few done (and hopefully more pics if the fish actually bite it). Last edited by screwballl; 02-16-10 at 07:05 PM. |

I figure (and it took me a while, since a lot people will tell you I'm kinda slow....) that it's a similar idea to the dropshot, and even suspending jerkbaits....you let it sit there and sit there and sit there until the fish just can't stand it and HAVE to bite. They'll watch the same hair jig/jerkbait/soft plastic go right by and never twitch a fin, but hang it in their faces for a few minutes and they'll eventually take a swipe at it.
