Default Dale Hollow - New Year's Eve 2011

I will of course add some pics tomorrow when I'm not so whooped.

It was really slow, but I did manage to catch a 4 lb Rainbow Trout and a 5-6 lb Walleye.

I shall be dining in style tomorrow night.

Last day of the year and he's fishing in a tee shirt - hate ya Bryce, just hate ya! But really, we haven't had much of winter - YET - here in PA. Yesterday I went to the liquor store and didn't need a jacket. I know it's comming, but so far it hasn't been bad. Now, if we can have an early spring arrival..................

Bryce, you've got some good eaten there. Hope we can catch some walleye like that when we go in May. Were you trolling for them? And what do they use down there? We have alot of baits we troll in Erie for eyes.

Oh, I think we'll definitely be catching some walleye in May. I have been told by both Dave Clark and Stephen Headrick that May is one of the best times of the year for Walleye. And it just so happens that Cedar Hill is located smack dab in the middle of the prime walleye spot.

Jeff, trolling cranks...nothing complicated. They just came very deep. Both hit the same crank, same depth, and on the same rod even.

My plan is to put a dozen walleye in the freezer before you guys even show up on Thursday, night fishing the bluffs with jerkbaits. Between my brother and I, we can legally take 40 filets back home to my freezer and ration out over the next year.

Bruce, yeah...how crazy is it that on Dec. 31, I was fishing in a T-shirt?!?!?! It was BEAUTIFUL out there...bluebird skies and just a breeze.

Bryce, When you fillet the walleye there is meat in the cheeks of the bigger ones. Its the sweetest fish you'll ever have, it's like eating lobster. We've been cutting them out for years. Now some of the local fish markets offer them for sale.

I'm an old-time walleye fan, Jeff. I never miss a chance to carve out the cheeks.

My walleye is on the right. I also got the cheeks out of Dave's walleye hehe.

Hey, nice fish, Bryce! I especially like the walleye, any idea on the length?

Wow, that's a lot of walleye you can keep there. Our possession limit here is only 6!

Both the trout and the walleye were 22-23 inches. The walleye was impossibly fat. Both were full of eggs. The trout eggs were very neat...the size of small peas and transparent pinkish-orange. Whole handfuls of them. I bet the critters under the dock ate well last night.

Possession limit at Dale is two days bag limit.

Bag limit on walleye is 5 over 16 inches, 7 trout no minimum size.

This is where the "Meet up" is in May, and this Dale Hollow has nice Bass too? Must be a great fishery with nice Trout, Walleye, and Big Bass.

Yeah, nice smallies - World Record smallmouth came from that reservoir in 1955. Eleven POUNDS, 15 OUNCES.

Matter of fact, it was brought in at the dock where we're staying.

I've got this feeling one of you guys is gonna catch a monster smallie at the get together. At least I'm hoping. Would make for a great post with pics in the forums.

Those are some nice marble eyes Bryce. There isn't a better tasting fish in the world than walleye, plus they are a blast to catch. Well done sir.
