Default my new swimbait

I had a tourney on Saturday and one of the raffle prizes I won was a gift certificate good for 1 swimbait upto $25. I ended up selecting the mattlures U2 Gill.
Those of you who know me are aware that I throw a lot of swimbaits and that when it comes to the bluegill types I swear by Matt. The U2 does not look like it will disappoint. This model is a lot smaller than his others. It measures 4" and weighs 1oz so you won't need a special rod.
While this wil catch some monsters, one of the issues with swimbaits are that they really only target trophy fish. This version will be different. I suspect that many fish in the 3lbs class will see this as a snack rather than a meal.
I gave it the usual pool test and the bait swam true. The side fins will flap a little while the bait is falling and it sits nose down in the water. The only issue that I have is that it has a very strong rubber and paint smell out of the package. While this is not that uncommon for some swimbaits, this one will need some extra scent before it hits the water.
Now I usually don't like to give a review before throwing a bait, but I have used enough of Matt's products to give this one a thumbs up.

The marlboros are for reference only...don't tell my Mom.

Your smokes are gonna smell like fish! That is a good looking bait. How can the fish tell them apart?

John,
You phone knows that big fish baits shouldn't be seen by you.

That does look good man. I bet that would kill on some of the lakes up here. I'll add it to the ever growing list of stuff I should get.

JRob and I were discussing it via text. If you are going to get one, then I suggest getting them from mattlures.com
They retail between 20-25 each. He has them for 18 each or 3 for $50 with free shipping over $50.
Me and two friends are ordering 6 of them so no shipping and they came out to about $16 each.

They are great looking baits and they look great in the water. I did run into a problem fishing the U2 bluegill on Tuesday though. I caught my first fish after a couple cast, nothing big, maybe 2 pounds. A few cast later I get a little bigger fish around 3. In the process of fighting it the fish jumps and headshakes, half of my bait flys towards the boat while the head and internal weight are with the fish. 2 fish and done. I don't know if it was just the one I got but those were two expensive fish. I want it to be just the one I had that had something wrong with it because it is an awesome looking bait!

Again, I haven't fished with the U2 yet so I cannot speak to its durability. I have had plenty of the original gills and have never seen an issue like that. I would consider writing Matt and ask him what he thinks of a 2 fish rip. Ask him if there is something you could do different.

I have had my bigger baits rip after 4 or 5 fish. I always keep some mend it in the boat and I will check my swimbaits after every fish or snag.
