LGMouth blast flys in hydrilla
Fished last night all code with client. Low tide was not so low so fish where way back in the grass. Super gin clear water and a fly rod required stealth and carefull fly placement. One trick was to cast over the weed line into the back water with only the leader and fly exposed. Plop and then a streak from the left or right of an intercepting fish and bam fish on. When you reach back deep in the weeds your line would spook fish as it flew over. Push pole out and slow movement through heavy cover was needed and employed.
Caught and released 10 + fish each all on big dalbergs and candy cane lure made by Andy my client. I got to fish as well which was a bonus for me. At one point we had several doubles on at the mouth of a feeder creek. Cast as far you can back over grass as you can and shuffle the fly over clump after clump of matted grass and then BAM a LGMouth explodes on your fly. A very good night for LGMouth and no rain. Backwaters
I have been taking out clients for 15 years now on the backwaters of the Potomac for topwater fun. The topwater will end soon (about three weeks) and the grass will die and I will indeed be sad. But next year is only 6 months away. I do not cost an arm or even a foot for a very memorible trip... This weekend starts monster catfish season.. Can I post pictures of whisker bass here??? What say YEE??
