Drop Shotting for Crappie?
Came to a couple conclusions lately.
1- I'm not waiting for Bass season to open this year, before I get out and do some fishing. 2- I really need to learn to Drop Shot. Picked up some 3" Gander Trick Sticks a while back, on the cheap, and wondered if this is a workable technique on big Crappies. Any thoughts?

It will work. I cought a few slabs last year fishing a DS. I mainly cought them on some Yamamoto shad bait. I also pulled in a couple on roboworms.
Oh, and I was fishing for bass. |

Mallen, it's a great way to do some bass fishing while not bass fishing. "pike" fishing is also another good way.
But yeah, it should work great. BB

Thanks guys. Figured it should work, but never really thought about it before.
Pike fishing doesn't really work as an excuse BigB. Pike season runs from last saturday in April to March 15th. I can start bass fishing on the same day as pike. Unless of course I get out there prior to March 15th.

It should work just fine. In actuality, there probably isn't a species of fish in your waters (or mine) that won't take a bait rigged drop shot style. I have caught, trout, bass of course and even tilapia and they're primarily vegetarians!
Just be sure to take some photos and post them here.

Sounds like it may!
But one thing I would before you use them. Boil them in super salty water! Gander Mt. plastics are always stiff, if you boil them it'll make them softer! Making them more attractive to bass and crappie!

I've caught tons of small to large crappies while I was sort of drop shottin.
What I do is put a float on the line high enough for the bottom af the line to be dragging bottom, but only just barely.I tie a weight on the bottom of the line and a hook 6 inches from bottom. Then, add a minnow, stubby butt, gulp! minnow,or anything and let it drift or twitch depending wether there is a current or not.

I use drop shotting for bream/bluegill all the time and works well in colder weather.... this past weekend I brought home several bream from 8 to 10" out of water that was around 45ºF... since there is typically plenty of grass anywhere from 1 to 15 feet tall/deep, usually a 12-16" drop shot keeps it off the bottom in the slightly thinner areas
