Adding a seat
Got a 14' johnboat with an aluminum bench seat in the rear. I would like to add a seat with a removable pedastal. The sides of the bench go all the way to the floor with only about 1/2" of space left. I can't get under there to hold a nut so that I can mount the base. Can I use toggle bolts if I put a 3/4" piece of plywood in there as a cushion? The aluminum is pretty heavy, but I worry that the bolts would tear loose. Anybody ever do this?

Haven't done it myself, but I think your toggle bolt idea will work using the plywood. Ideally I'd say put it under the aluminum, but I think your idea will work.
If you are planning for it to be permanent I'd use some Gorilla Glue-best glue of any kind I have ever used-to glue the plywood to the aluminum as added reinforcement.

Welcome,
For a 3rd seat in my boat, that is removeable. I bought some treated playwood, mounted a seat, swivel and pedastal to it, and cut it to fit inside my boat. I wrapped it with outdoor carpet. When not in use, just pull it out. The seat clamps work also, just make sure you don't over tighten them, and strip out the aluminum. A big guy rocking isn't a great idea either with those seats. Tried that
I have tried the clamp and it works for sitting down low, but the manufacturer warns you not to use it with a pedastal extension. Can't keep the screws tight enough. Thanks for the tip about the glue. I'll try it.
