Default Today's Question..........Frogs, best color

Now I think everyone will agree that Dean Rojas maybe the best hollow body frog angler there is. Maybe the best ever. He knows all the whys, all the hot target spots, all the techniques, ect.

I also hear frequently from anglers that the only real colors you need is a black one and a white one, sometimes a green.

So as many of you are aware of, Spro has a new Hollow Body and it was designed by Rojas.
So obviously the MONKEY felt we had to AT LEAST check it out (cost).
So I did.
Everything sounds good about it but here's what I found surprising, his color choices. No white, (other than the bellies), no black and other than maybe Wicked Perch, no dark colors at all.
http://www.spro.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=313

So froggers, what do you think about the color choices?

Another thought.
With all the new plastics available today, why do almost all hollow bodies STILL use 'living rubber'?

That is the most likely rubber to melt and clump together.
Heck, if you accidently or on purpose leave them in your car trunk a couple of days, bam melted googy sticky legs.
Can't tell you how many frogs skirt legs I've replaced and replacing frog skirts really stinks, IMO anyways.

Have at it anglers.
Share your thoughts.
I know there are froggers around here somewhere.

That bait is the Bronzeye SHAD. It has baitfish patterns, that's why the colors are like that. This bait has a different profile than the frog and is meant to be walked. I haven't gotten one yet but I plan to.

Ya and I assumed the same even before looking because of Shad in the name. And I figured it was more of an open water bait too.
BUT,
Searching through the reviews (not many yet), everyone including Spro specifically talks about walking over the mats, pads and veg. just like a traditional frog. Actually one guy talked about how 'walking dog' presentation was as or more deadly in vegatation and mats as open water and harder to accomplish in mats. Something about if you watch a frog on mats, they NEVER go straight. Hence his great review.

Joe thank you for the input.
And if you find anything from Rojas about the lure please share it with me.

I actually got and used Money Hounds this year specically due to floating grass but basically clear water.
So this Frog should accomplish the same my Monkey says. So I have a huge interest in the bluegill color. This BOW has bluegill as a major forage fish.
I try to walk every top water I fish. Something about DIRECTION change that seems to get reactions and bites. IMO

That's the concept of the figure eight and musky fishing. And ya I got the idea from My Musky buddies.

Found it,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QWF71-gTDs

Wow and Dean shows the lure and the 'legs' are perpendicular not side by side. Actually other than being hollow, the shape of this is totally different.
Doesn't show him working mats but he says it will do anything the BronzeEye would do but they wanted a 'fish' like appearance not a frog.
I'm very intrigued now.

The hounds were because all walking lures had trebles, hence veg. collecters.
I wanted to walk through veg.

Fluking Monkey wins AGAIN!
Someone has to have a Black Friday deal on these coming. "Shut up, I'm busy here!"

That was my understanding of the bait too. It would be fished in the same places and in the same manner as the frog. I was only pointing out that it's a shad in regard to the colors. I think they made this bait because so many people seem to have trouble walking frogs. This shad frog will walk much easier due to its narrow profile.

I'm a fan of the Money Hound too. It was one of those baits that really surprised me and exceeded my expectations. I think the shad frog will walk just as easily as the MH.

I had some money hounds that I used. One package was black and the other package was bull frog colored. Got blown up on a ton, but didn't get hook ups for crap. Used the XL XWG hooks too. That would be my choice color wise for any frogs.

Had same problem at first so I started throwing the Jr. version.
Hook ups came but still get fish that don't put it in thier mouths and that's a must on hounds.IMO They hit the underside but don't engulf.

Didn't know they had a Jr. version...I will pick some up then. They are lethal as hell, just the hookup ratio sucks.

Ya, a 3.5" and a 4.25".
I don't know that they call it Jr. though.

Here's a site to check,
http://www.lurenet.com/brands/yum-baits/yum-money-hound

Oh and that's a pretty good price and ok selection.IMO
I use pooch and black but have some other colors too.
I check this site before I buy anything Yum.
I've gotten Dingers for $2 Chunks for a couple bucks.
They run random deals on random Yum baits.
They run specials on other stuff too.

Think about it how often does one swallow a spook, its a wide side to side action and they swipe at it.Ive only used them and the popr version over grass where treble hooks are useless, and if open water the trebles will hook up better.

Really like the wicked perch and killer patterns. They look great!

The way they're normally fished though, over pads, the color selection is mostly for the fisherman.

Hell, the 2 colors that have produced the best for me are Natural Red in the Bronzeye (Bama's fav as well, if I remember correctly) and the black/yellow dot Bobby's Perfect
