Default Who the H$LL is this guy??

What's up Bass fishing friends? Who still lurks on the boards or posts for that matter?

I know, I know I haven't been around in a while...long while! Most of you thought I'd forgot about you all, huh?

I didn't forget about you all...life, military, deployments got the best of me. However, this last deployment was cut short and Uncle Sam told me to go home early and prepare to retire.

I won't go in to details, long story; however, I am being forced [more or less] to retire after 17 years of service. Still get my pension [at a reduced rate] and maintain my benefits.

None the less after I sold all my reels in Oct, with full intentions of upgrading while I was deployed, I'm back and no reels . I do have a couple on the way though; I picked up a Lew's TP1SH and TP1H, brand new and for a killer price. I'm excited to get them on the water.

I hope everyone is good!

Joe - Thanks and good to "see" you as well!

I appreciate it...I wouldn't classify it as a struggle, just closing one chapter in my life and starting another. We all go through it.

The USMC laid me off, too. But they got me before 16 years. At 12 years, I didn't get any benefits or retirement.
So, I am an ex-marine. I might be the only one to feel this way, but when they laid me off, they lost all my loyalty.

Welcome back to the real world, Devil Dog.

Mike - Welcome to the board! I'll be at 17 years, 1 month and 4 days when I officially EAS. I'm bitter to a certain extent...20 years is right there and they can't keep me; yet we can afford to keep all the "civilian Marines". On the flip side of that I'm ready to move on and do other things too. It's a double edged sword...bitter sweet kind of thing.

I am/was done with the constant deploying, TAD, etc...I've missed way to much family time.

Good to "meet" ya!

Glad you're ready to move on. I was 22 when I went in, so I had a good idea what it was like on the "outside". I convince quite a few young men to stay in, letting them know that life in the civilian world was NOT easier than life in the Corps. Less travel maybe, but that depended on the job. Better supervisors ... NO FREAKIN' WAY !!! Better to have a higher ranking person who KNOWS the rules and pretty much follows them, than a boss who thinks up new rules when ever it suits them.
I was VERY bitter when they laid me off. Still harbor a grudge, but no anger anymore. I love my job and my life, they are the ones who lost out, not me.

Good luck to you, and I hope you find a great life waiting for you.

I went in right out of high school and the only jobs I had before that were your typical high school jobs with the exception of repo'ing furniture and building furniture for 5th wheels.

I, too, tell young guys to do the right thing (e.g follow what's wrote in black and white, bend 'em when you have to) and stick around; the BS gets old from time to time, but by far one of the easiest checks they'll earn.

I'm already sick of looking for a job and have only been at it 2 months. Thought about going the "easy" route and in to law enforcement; not sure that's what I want to do though. Not saying being a cop is easy, but the transition would be.

The only thing that keeps me from being bitter is the fact they are letting me retire. If I was just to get the boot I'd be a livid mofo and up my Congressman's @$$!

Thanks man...I know I'll find a great life and one that allows for more family time. Glad to hear you're happy and it worked out for you!
