Palomar and Braid
Will the Palomar work with braided line or will it slip. And if it doesn't work what is your suggestion for a easy to tie knot for braided line.

Most braided line recommends the Palomar knot. Most knots cut down on themselves, this is bad for braid. Use palomar and remember to wet the knot when tightening.

flfireman is right. The main reason the palomer knot works so well with braid is because it doesn't continually tighten as the fish pulls on it or with constant cranking. It is the recommended knot for braid. I particularly love it because it it so easy to tie and with little line waste.

I'd recommend always using a Double Palomar with braid. You'll have less problems with the knot slipping.

The double palomar knot is basically when making the overhand knot on a palomar knot, you double the overhand knot. That creates a double palomar knot. I think Power pro knot booklet had the double palomar knot listed ? P N J

Woody, thanks for the link to the demo. Going to give the double Palomar know a try rather then the single Palomar I've been using with braid for years.

Palomar is the only knot to use with braid...be sure the line doesn't cross over itself in the lure eye, though. Could create a weak spot. Double Palomar sounds good too.

Thanks for the link to the double palomar. I too always tie a palomar whether I'm using mono or braid. I'll try the double.
For those of you that are new to the palomar and saw the video, doubling the line before passing it through the hook eye is not the best or easiest way to start the knot in most cases. Some hook eyes are so small or the line is so big (especially mono) that the easiest way to start the knot is to pass the tag end of the line through the eye and then pass the tag end of the line back through the eye in the opposite direction. The result is the same. |

Palomar Knot
I always use a double Palomarknot with Braid. Most Braids are a little slick out of the package, and the double just reinforces the strength of the line. You really should try the new Braids from Vicious Fishing. They really cast well on spinning and casting gear, and are small diameter for their pound test. You will be suprised. I also use their Florocarbon for a leader on my Braid for Drop Shotting up here on the Great Lakes.

Palamor Knot
I know some of you are going to think I'm crazy, but Ive used the Trilene knot for 45 years on mono and fluro, and I tried it several years ago when gorilla braid first came out and have been using it ever since ,and have never had a problem with my knot slipping or anything.

I'm a fan of the palomar knot as well. I agree that often, rather than push a loop through the eye, you need to pass the single end thru and back again. Also, the video didn't talk about saliva to lube the knot before tightening. Anyway, the single palomar has always worked well - I'll have to try the double.
