Ah well, I can live with that, but why are kayaks so much better? All the ones I find are like 600-1,000 dollars and up.

Hm, apparently the canoes I find are so thin you could barely fit inside yourself. How am I going to fit a tackle box in that?

"say hello to my little friend" from the way it sounds this baby should really fit your needs. the one in the pic is $60.00 and they go up from there. just get you some flippers and you should be good to go. the only bad thing is that you are back to having to inflate it. oh and probably not user friendly in cold water. but would be fine in the summer months. you would just have to pick the things you really have to have and leave the rest behind, but thats the way with any small pond hopping boat. seen a lot of guys using these around here and they really seem to like them.

There is a place here in town that sells those little two seater bass hunter deals for 200 bucks, and the damn thing even has a live well. A little hitting the pawn shops and garage sales should yeild you a trolling motor pretty cheap, and they push those little boats pretty nicely.

Here is another idea for you. Look around as you go about and see if you can find an old 10 footer or something, and make a trade. A summers worth of lawn mowings for that old boat they dont use anymore.

By the way I need that address in PM pretty soon as your package is filling up nicely! Lots a good stuff in there. Have you ever used any of those twin tail skirted grubs by gary yamamoto?

Ah garage sales, are definitely not common in the area of where I live though. But the best part is my neighbors own a boat, but I don't know how old it is. It looks really nice, but I'm sure it costs much more then what I can earn. I'll start off with a raft, save my money up when I get into highschool, get a job, and buy my own kayak, canoe, or boat if i'm lucky enough.

heres an idea, rent a canoe or a kayak! at our forest preserves, one of them has a canoe rental and one of the others has kayak, see if you can find a place that rents them out for a couple hours and try them out

But renting is never as good as "owning" a boat/canoe/raft/kayak.

I thought I would weigh in too. I have that same inflatable excursion boat, which I use all the time on the lakes around here where no motors are allowed (gas or electric). It also doubles as a really fun boat for me to burn the kids around in. You mentioned that you want to fish with your dad....if you both want to be in the same boat, the excursion isnt a bad starting option....lots of room for two fishermen and all the tackle you want, and is fairly easy to row. What I did was buy an electric air pump with a car lighter adaptor....inflates the boat in no time! Kayaks, canoes, and aluminum are all good too, just thought I would give you my hands on experience.....Oh and I built a "floor" for it and have stood up in it, but I am 6 foot 4, 215 pounds and don't recommend it unless you like swimming while hanging onto a fishing rod!!!!

A CANOE, cheap, fit as much tackle along with a livewell, anchor, trolling motor, and battery and will fit 2 people!

Your original post didn't mention anything about 2 people.

If you are gonna start adding people, you are gonna start adding expenses. Sorry, thats the way it is.

I still think a kayak is the best option, canoe/jon boat being second. You dont need a bass boat, you dont need tons of tackle storage. A kayak will make you learn to appreciate stealth and also teach you how to read water and pattern fish without feeling the need to change lures every 15 casts. It teaches patience and technique, which are more important than tackle storage and trolling motors.
