Default Daughter Crushed My PB

Howdy all......

Well my bass education continues. Unfortunately, the summer up here in the U.P. has been pretty dismal thus far. As such my daughter and I have only been out about a dozen times. I work 2nd shift so fishing on work days is pretty much out of the question. Anyway, my tackle box is stocked fairly well with cranks, spinnerbaits, frogs, plastic worms, etc. However, I along with my daughter are crankbait addicts and haven't spent any time trying other lures/baits. Oh we've tossed a few plastic worms, frogs and such, but after about 5 minutes we revert right back to throwing Rapalas. We've had good success for the most part catching 15 bass on our best trip and 4 on our worst trip. Unfortunately, we were out last week and got skunked.....sigh. So we headed out yesterday and the only tackle we brought were 5" senkos, hooks, pliers and a stringer. Due to our schedule we only had 2 hours to fish. We were on the water right at 2pm and we both wacky hooked our senkos (watermelon) and within 10 minutes I landed a nice 2 pounder. I was absolutely ecstatic since it was the first fish I caught using a plastic worm. I had my daugher take my picture which I was going to post here. Not more than 5 minutes after releasing it my daughter hooks one and it was just a tick smaller than mine. I wanted to take her picture holding it, but she wouldn't lip grab it....lol. So I release it and before I could even get the camera back in the bag and stowed she has another one hooked. Just by the pull of the rod I knew it was going to be decent size. It was diving deep and pulling the drag and about 15 feet from the boat it jumped out of the water and I'm not really sure about my daughter, but I'm pretty sure I crapped myself. Ended up being 4lbs 6oz which beats my best by a pound and 2oz. We both caught one each afterwards (about a pound) and then we ran out of time. Once on shore I "forced" her to lip grab her fish for a picture which you can tell from the photo that she's not really into lip grabbing.....lol. So we have about a month left and once October hits it day by day since the weather can get pretty ugly up here. We've reloaded on Senkos and are hoping to get out Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Oh the pressure of beating 4lbs 6oz

Sorry about the picture quality. It was taken using a video camera and was scanned.

Hey man, that's awesome! nice looking fish definately!

Senko-type baits are great, wacky or t-rigged. Check out the YUM dingers. They're cheaper and last a lot longer than real senkos.

Awesome, I fish with my kids and there is nothing better... My sons Pb is better than mine as well. If you have a Gander Mountain around you, they make a nice Senko type bait that we have had good success with. Congrats to your daughter!

Kudos to you and your daughter! My little girl is also a fish catchin' machine. I might outrank her in the PB department, but she smokes me in numbers. Her ability to detect even subtle strikes is amazing too.

The usual conversation when we're fishing is like this...

"Papi, I got one."

"Are you sure or are you pulling my leg?"

"Yup. I got one." As she reels up as the line moves and becomes taut.

Doh!

And the drop shot is her favorite technique.

BTW, she too for some reason doesn't want to lip 'em either.

Yup! You can certainly tell he's not to worked up about lipping 'em!

Nice bass she's got there!
